Box Score Junior Taylor Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) equaled her career-high with six goals and classmate Maggie Bonafede (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) set a career-high with nine points to lead the Keuka College women's lacrosse team to a 20-5 win over Cazenovia College Saturday in Cazenovia, N.Y.
Bonafede finished with two goals and seven assists while sophomore Kaycee Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) equaled her career-high with four goals to help the Storm (10-3, 8-0 NEAC) remain undefeated in conference play.
With the win, the Green and Gold remain in the hunt for the NEAC's regular season championship. If Keuka can knock off Morrisville State (9-5, 8-0) at 1 p.m. Sunday in the regular-season finale, Keuka would clinch the regular season title and would host the NEAC postseason tournament, May 4-5.
The winner of the NEAC tournament receives the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III tournament.
Sophomore Jennifer Burt (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) tallied four goals with one assist in her first game back since suffering a head injury, and sophomore Olivia Hudson (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) and junior Caroline Arancio (Clinton, NY/Clinton) each had two goals for the Storm.
It was Smith's eighth game this year with five or more goals, and the eighth time in the last nine games Bonafede has tallied six or more points.
Smith also won nine draw controls while Maguire collected a game-high eight groundballs as Keuka enjoyed a 23-14 edge in groundballs. The Storm also won 20 of 26 draw controls.
Smith scored the first two goals of the game just 11 seconds apart, but Kim Vrigian's tally two minutes in trimmed the Storm's lead to 2-1. Burt fed Arancio for a goal with 26:47 remaining and Maguire converted a free-position shot into a goal for a 4-1 lead five minutes in.
Smith extended the lead to 5-1 on her third goal of the first 5:51, but Alicia Priest scored with 22:13 remaining in the opening half to pull Cazenovia (7-7, 4-4 NEAC) within 5-2.
It was all Storm from there. Keuka went on a 10-0 run spanning both halves and blanked the Wildcats for 32:03 to seize control. Burt and Maguire each scored three times and Hudson, Bonafede, Smith and Arancio added goals during the run for the Storm.
Senior Molly Hogan (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) stopped four shots and allowed four goals in 51:53 to improve to 10-3 on the year.
Up next for the Storm: a 1 p.m. clash with Morrisville State Sunday to determine the NEAC's regular-season champion. Morrisville State defeated Keuka 13-10 in the regular season and 11-10 in triple overtime of the NAC West championship game in 2012.
