Win Streak Snapped for Women's Lax

Box Score

The Keuka College women's lacrosse team saw its seven-game winning streak snapped Wednesday night when Utica College picked up an 11-4 win over the Storm on a blustery night at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Junior Taylor Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) scored three goals, sophomore Olivia Hudson (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) added one goal and junior Maggie Bonafede (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) added an assist for the Storm (9-3), who fell behind 5-0 and didn't score until Smith's unassisted tally 18 seconds before halftime.

Sisters Megan and Patricia Kane combined for eight goals, including five of Utica's (9-5) six second-half goals to hand the Storm their first setback since an 11-10 loss to Adrian (Mich.) College on March 29.

The Pioneers extended their lead to 8-1 on Megan Kane's goal with 23:47 remaining, before Hudson scored on a free-position shot and Bonafede found Smith for an even-strength goal with 22:20 remaining to pull Keuka within 8-3.

But Patricia Kane scored twice and Megan Kane added a goal for an 11-3 lead. Smith closed out the scoring with a man-up tally with 12:49 remaining. It was her 50th goal of the year.

Senior Molly Hogan (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), the NEAC's reigning Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week, stopped 11 shots in the loss.

Smith scooped up four groundballs and won two draw controls while sophomore Kaycee Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) won three draw controls for the Storm.

The Green and Gold close out the regular season with NEAC clashes at Cazenovia College (Saturday) and Morrisville State (Sunday). If the Storm can pick up a pair of wins, Keuka will win the NEAC's regular season championship and would host the NEAC tournament, May 4-5.
