Box Score Junior Caroline Arancio (Clinton, NY/Clinton) scored a career-high four goals while classmate Taylor Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) set a career-high with eight points as the Keuka College women's lacrosse team picked up its fifth straight win, 17-3 over Wells College Wednesday in Aurora, N.Y.
Smith scored five goals and added three assists while junior Maggie Bonafede (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) scored two goals with four assists to power the Storm (7-2, 5-0 NEAC).
It was Smith's fifth game this year with five or more goals, and Bonafede's fifth straight game with six or more points.
Bonafede now has 94 career assists in three seasons and has 28 more assists than the previous record-holder. Smith is the second-leading scorer in school history with 101 career goals. She trails only Brandy Shafer (2008-11), who scored 180 goals in her four-year career.
With 155 career points, Bonafede is second in school history, trailing Shafer (220). Smith sits in fourth place in the school record books with 122 career points.
Sophomore Olivia Hudson (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) totaled three goals while classmates Jennifer Burt (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) and Kaycee Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) each had one goal and one assist for the Storm.
Maguire won 6 draw controls, scooped up 4 groundballs and caused 3 turnovers, Hudson won four draw controls and had three groundballs and Smith added seven groundballs for Keuka, which enjoyed a 30-17 edge in groundballs and won 14 of 21 draw controls.
Arancio scored twice and Smith, Burt, Hudson and Bonafede each added tallies as the Green and Gold took a 6-0 lead nine minutes into the game.
Madeline Bass put the Express (5-5, 3-2) on the board with her unassisted goal with 20:28 remaining, but the Storm held Wells scoreless for a period of 21:34 spanning both halves until Marina Fargnoli's goal 1:06 into the second trimmed the Keuka lead to 8-2.
Bonafede then fed Hudson for a goal with 24:07 remaining and Maguire scored on a free-position shot for a 10-2 lead 9:37 into the second. Smith added consecutive goals and Hudson scored to extend the Storm's lead to 13-2, and Keuka breezed to the win to remain perfect in NEAC play.
Senior Molly Hogan (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) allowed all three goals and made five saves for the win.
Keuka returns home for three straight. The Storm will host Medaille College at 3 p.m. Saturday, SUNYIT at 1 p.m. Sunday and Utica College at 7 p.m. April 24. The Medaille contest will be Keuka's Parents' day game, with Senior Day set for Sunday.
