Keuka College's softball team ran into a potent St. John Fisher College team Monday afternoon and dropped both games of the doubleheader to the Cardinals, losing 6-1 and 11-0.
The Storm (4-6) held Fisher (19-11) scoreless for the first two innings of game one.
Junior Deliane Lessard (Rochester, NY/Genesee Community College) made a leaping catch in deep center field to rob Sarah Fordyce of extra bases in the second inning, and then the Green and Gold turned two to end the Cardinals threat as the game remained scoreless into the bottom of the second.
Junior Jill Hart (Cowlesville, NY/Iroquois) made a similar leaping catch to rob Krista Robarge of a hit to lead off the third, but a two-out double and single gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third.
The Green and Gold were held scoreless in the bottom of the inning, and Fisher broke open the game thanks to a four-run fourth. Fordyce hit a leadoff home run over the center field fence and Fisher added two more runs on an RBI single and another on an RBI single to take a 6-0 lead.
The Storm were retired in order in the fourth and fifth innings and didn't record a hit in the sixth. Keuka got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh to avoid the shutout. Freshman Ally Muller (Bath, NY/Haverling) hit a leadoff double, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on junior Danielle Gravel's (Sidney, NY/Sidney) RBI groundout.
Gravel limited the Cardinals to six runs (four earned) on nine hits in seven innings. She issued only one walk but the Storm committed four errors and only managed two hits against Wesolowski.
In game two, Sarah Stefanon struck out 10 and pitched 4 2/3 innings of no-hit ball until Gravel dropped a single into shallow center field. But the Storm dropped the nightcap 11-0 in five innings as Fisher pounded out 11 hits and capitalized on six errors by the Green and Gold.
Keuka is on the road for a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Wells College Wednesday and a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Cazenovia College Friday before hosting Morrisville State and SUNYIT Saturday and Sunday.
