Box Score Junior Jessica Bandrowski (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the 2012 season, but the Keuka College women's soccer team couldn't overcome a two-goal deficit and lost to Lancaster Bible College, 3-1 Friday night.
The Chargers (6-3, 3-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference) struck first, scoring in the third minute on a chilly evening at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
The Keuka (3-5, 3-3 NEAC) defense clamped down and held Lancaster scoreless over the next 39 minutes. During the run of stout defense, the Green and Gold had chances to get on the scoreboard, but each time the attack was denied.
Keuka's best chance in the first half came with 11:58 remaining before halftime. Bandrowski fired a shot at Lancaster keeper Emily Lloyd, but it was saved. The ensuing rebound came out to Bandrowski, but her follow up attempt was saved.
Junior Brooke Lovell (Arkport, NY/Arkport) ripped another shot at Lloyd, but her effort was denied and the score remained 1-0 until the Chargers scored in the 42nd minute.
Bandrowski got Keuka on the scoreboard in the 68th minute. After collecting a loose ball, Bandrowski dribbled around three defenders, ripped a shot from 15 yards out and scored into the far portion of the goal to pull the Storm within 2-1.
But despite a persistent attack, the Green and Gold couldn't net the equalizer and Lancaster Bible extended its lead to 3-1 on a goal with 11:15 remaining.
Senior Nicole Sharick (Corfu, NY/Pembroke) had a solid look on goal with 6:45 remaining, but her blast from 18 yards sailed high over the net.
Sophomore Marriah Gough (Oneida, NY/Stockbridge Valley) stopped 14 shots for the Storm, which returns to action at 4 p.m. Tuesday night with a NEAC home contest against Cazenovia College.
