Women's Soccer Rallies for Tie

Box Score

Junior Nicole Sharick (Corfu, NY/Pembroke) scored the equalizer in the 66th minute as the Keuka College women's soccer team rallied for a 1-1 tie with Penn State-Berks in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener for both teams Saturday in Bernville, PA.

Penn State-Berks (0-2-1, 0-1-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute before Sharick responded with the clutch tying goal. After receiving a chipped ball on a breakaway, Sharick beat her defender with her dribble, got the Berks goalie to come out of the net and buried the shot into the lower-right corner of the net for the Storm (0-1-1, 0-0-1).

Both teams had opportunities in overtime, and Keuka had three corner kicks in the final two minutes of the second OT period, but couldn't come up with the winner.

Freshman Ashley Swarts (Arkport, NY/Arkport) tied a career-high with 12 saves for Keuka, which returns to action with a 2 p.m. NEAC clash with Penn State-Abington Sunday afternoon.

"To get a point, especially after how we played last weekend (during a 4-0 loss at Elmira College) is big for us," said Jamie Burke, Keuka's sixth-year head coach.

"We definitely played better tonight. All-in-all, I am pleased with our effort. To get down a goal and then come back and force overtime and earn a tie was impressive, and we definitely had more scoring opportunities then they did. We needed to get a point tonight."
