KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — Keuka College first-year defender
Avery Pawlisch impacted all three goals for the Wolves in a 3-1 victory over Hilbert College on Wednesday night at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
Pawlisch assisted on the first Keuka College (1-3-1, 0-1 Empire 8) that was scored by
Carson Montoney. He then scored a pair of second half goals directly off free kicks to guide the Wolves to victory.
Keuka College 3 vs. Hilbert College 1
The Wolves pressured the Hawks early in the first half as Keuka had six corner kicks in the opening ten minutes of play. Hilbert looked to attack on the counter by the Keuka back line held firm to keep the game scoreless. That would be until the 23rd minute when it was the Green and Gold who struck first. The Wolves got a free kick from the right edge of the box. Pawlisch took it and sent the ball to the back post. It was headed back across the frame by
Cody Bronner and knocked home by
Carson Montoney for the 1-0 lead. The Wolves continued to press and finished the first half with 11 total corner kicks, but the lead would just be 1-0 at the break.
In the 53rd minute, the Wolves struck again from another set piece. Pawlisch lined up the free kick from the left wing. Bronner flashed near post for the Wolves, which caused confusion by the Hilbert defenders. Pawlisch's low shot would work its way through the traffic and inside the far post for the 2-0 lead. Just two and a half minutes later, Pawlisch did it again from close to the same area on the left. This time, he went low to the near post. It was deflected by a defender, but he was not able to get all of it as it went into the back of the net for the 3-0 advantage. Hilbert answered with a goal 10 minutes later in the 66th, but the Wolves were able to hold them there. Keuka College saw the game out as they defeated Hilbert 3-1 for their first victory of the season.
KC Notes:
- The Wolves avenged their loss at Hilbert College last season. It was their only loss in the series with the Hawks. The Wolves improve to 16-1 all-time against Hilbert and 9-0 at home
- The assists by Pawlisch and Bronner on the first goal were both the first of the young defenders' careers. It was also the first collegiate point for Cody Bronner
- Jakob Snyder made a pair of saves in goal to earn his first collegiate win
- Patrick Mucha was dangerous in the run of play all night for Keuka. He led the Wolves with six shots in the game
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will look to carry the momentum from their first win back into conference play this weekend. Keuka College will travel to Elmira College on Saturday afternoon. The Wolves will be looking for their first result since 2015 against the Soaring Eagles.
