ONEONTA, N.Y. — Keuka College (9-11, 4-8 Empire 8) edged Hartwick College (4-17, 1-11 Empire 8), 53-51, at Lambros Arena, securing the win with a final-quarter rally. The Wolves' 14 second-chance points proved decisive in the evenly contested matchup.
Lillian Mullen scored 16 points and added three assists, contributing four 3-pointers.
Brooke Burd recorded 19 rebounds, including seven offensive boards, while also scoring 13 points.
Mary Cotter finished with 12 points and collected four rebounds.
Emilee Bacon tallied six points and two steals, contributing eight rebounds to the team's efforts.
Keuka College 53 vs Hartwick College 51
Keuka College started strong in the first quarter, overcoming Hartwick by a score of 18-11. Mullen was instrumental, making three 3-pointers, including a crucial one at 1:46 that put the Wolves ahead 14-11. Burd contributed both defensively and offensively, securing multiple rebounds and assisting on Mullen's shots.
Emiley Anderson closed the quarter on a high note with two jumpers in the final minute to extend the Wolves' lead.
Keuka College widened their lead in the second quarter, thanks in part to Bacon, who contributed significantly with a layup and a successful free throw at 8:19, bringing the score to 21-11. Later, Burd added to their advantage with a layup at 6:25. Hartwick responded with a 3-pointer at 8:02, but Keuka College maintained control, closing the quarter with a 29-20 lead. Despite Hartwick's efforts, the Wolves' defense held strong, with Burd securing a defensive rebound as the clock expired going into halftime.
Hartwick narrowed the gap significantly in the third quarter, thanks to a strong performance that saw them score 19 points. The quarter ended with Hartwick taking a slight edge, 39-38, fueled by a 7-0 run to tie the game with minutes to go in the quarter. The Wolves managed to score only nine points during the quarter, struggling to maintain their earlier lead.
In a tense fourth quarter, the Wolves secured a narrow 53-51 victory over Hartwick. The period began with Bacon's steal, setting a defensive tone for the Wolves. Cotter played a pivotal role, hitting a 3-pointer at 6:24 to tie the game 43-43 and then adding another at 4:50 to give Keuka a 46-43 lead. Mullen's key 3-pointer with 2:50 left pushed Keuka College ahead 51-48. Burd's free throw with 17 seconds remaining gave the Wolves a 52-51 lead, while Bacon's final free throw at 0:01 sealed the win.
