GENEVA, N.Y. — Keuka College Baseball played a doubleheader in Geneva on Tuesday night against the Hobart Statesmen.
Keuka College (3-21, 2-7 Empire 8) lost the first game 8-2 and fought their way through extra innings in game two but came up short, losing 7-6 in the bottom of the ninth.

The Wolves got on the board early, scoring in the top of the first inning.
Kyle Wood (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) doubled down the left-field line to get the inning started.
Matt Vaccaro (Fayetteville, N.Y. / Fayetteville-Manlius) grounded out into a fielder's choice play to advance Wood to third.
Carlos Fantauzzi (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) then singled up the middle of the field to bring Wood into home to score. The Statesmen answered with six runs in the bottom of the first, to go up 6-1.
The top of the second inning started with a double to right center from
Derek Novicki (North Haven, Conn. / North Haven), he advanced to third on a wild pitch. Novicki scored when
Donald Nemeth (Guilderland, N.Y. / Guilderland) hit into a fielder's choice play to earn a run back for the Wolves.
Pitchers
Tanner Olson (Gowanda, N.Y. / Gowanda) and
DJ Bruni Seneca Falls, N.Y. / Mynderse Academy) slowed the Hobart offense and held the Statesmen to just two runs over the next six innings. Hobart went on to win game one, 8-2.

The Statesmen were the first to strike, scoring two runs in the first inning. From there, pitcher
James Fino (Buffalo, N.Y. / Bishop Timon) kept Hobart off the board for the next three innings. He posted five strikeouts for the Wolves.
In the top of the third,
Owen Garvey (Meadville, Pa. / Meadville Area) drew a walk and
Alex Evans (Liverpool. N.Y. / Liverpool) was hit by a pitch to give Keuka two baserunners. This brought junior
Kyle Wood to the plate, and he hit a three-run home run to give the Wolves the 3-2 lead.
In the top of the fourth,
RJ Murphy (Syracuse, N.Y. / West Genesee) and
Donald Nemeth worked the plate to draw walks. A single to left field from
Owen Garvey brought in another run for the Wolves to extend their lead to 4-2.
The Keuka defense continued their success in keeping the Statesmen to their two initial runs. The sixth inning began with a solo home run from
Carlos Fantauzzi.
Derek Novicki then singled to left center, Hobart attempted to pick him off at first base but overthrew the first baseman. On the overthrow, Novicki made it to third from first. He then scored on a wild pitch to give the Wolves the 6-2 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, Hobart scored four runs to tie the game. The next two innings were a pitching duel as both teams looked to end the game in extra innings. In the bottom of the ninth, Hobart loaded the bases and hit a walk-off single to win 7-6 in nine innings.
Up Next for Keuka College: The Green and Gold will return to Empire 8 play on Saturday with a doubleheader against Alfred University. It will be the first two games of a three-game series over the weekend.
