Wolves After Dark: Keuka Tops Alfred in Baseball

HOUGHTON, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team defeated Alfred University 12-7 in an Empire 8 Conference game at Houghton University.

In a game that had an 8 p.m. first pitch, Keuka College (4-21, 3-7 Empire 8) got a school-record seven RBIs from Carlos Fantauzzi. Alex Evans added four runs batted in, three coming on a three-run home run.

The Wolves scored in the first as Matt Vaccaro walked and stole second. He then came home on a single by Fantauzzi for the lead.

Alfred answered with a run, but the Wolves took the lead right back on Evans' first career home run. However, the lead did not hold as Alfred scored four in the bottom of the second to take a 5-4 lead.

The Wolves tied the game at 5-5 early in the fourth inning and then Carlos Fantauzzi delivered his fifth triple of the season to score a pair of runs and give the Wolves a 7-5 lead.

The game would remain close into the final inning with the Wolves leading 8-7. Keuka loaded the bases in the ninth and Carlos Fantauzzi delivered again, clearing the bases on a double. RJ Murphy followed with a single to score Fantauzzi to give the Wolves a 12-7 lead.

Lucas Gilbert shut the door in the ninth, striking out the final two batters, as the Wolves secured the conference victory on Saturday night.

Up Next for Keuka College: The series between the Wolves and the Saxons will continue on Sunday. The Empire 8 doubleheader will start at 1 p.m. and will be played at Houghton University.
