CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — Keuka College Softball lost two games to Alfred on Monday afternoon against Alfred University. The Empire 8 games were played at Finger Lakes Community College.
Keuka College (7-12, 3-3 Empire 8) lost the first game 8-0 after five innings and went the distance in game two, losing 3-1 after seven full innings.
Alfred University 8 – Keuka College 0
The Saxons got an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. In the top of the second, Alfred took advantage of a pair of errors to add three runs to their lead.
Grace Eagen (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) singled in the second for the Wolves but was left on base.
In the top of the third, Alfred added two additional runs to the lead.
Haley Mascho (Bolivar, N.Y. / Bolivar-Richburg) singled in the third inning for Keuka but was left on base.
Saxon added a final run to go up 8-0 over the Wolves. In the top of the eight, pitcher
Haley Mascho slowed the Alfred offense and kept them off the board for the first time. The point difference was too substantial to overcome, and the Saxons won the game 8-0.
Alfred University 3 – Keuka College 1
The game started as a defensive battle, as it went scoreless for the first three full innings. Alfred scored in the top of the fourth, but the Wolves were ready to respond.
Hailey Jasinski (Buffalo, N.Y. / North Collins) drew a walk and advanced when
Makenna DeMoney (Conklin, N.Y. / Susquehanna Valley) singled to center field.
Grace Eagen loaded the bases with a single and
Hali Jenner (Waverly, N.Y. Waverly) hit a sacrifice fly to get the Wolves their first run of the day. The game went into the fifth inning tied 1-1.
The Saxons scored two runs in the top of the fifth to get up to a 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the inning,
Emily Cutrona (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) and
Olivia Flynn (Williamson, N.Y. / Williamson) each hit singles to get on base. However, the inning ended with a Saxon double play and the score remained 3-1.
The Keuka defense kept the Saxons off the board for the next two innings with pitcher
Olivia Flynn leading the way from the mound. The Wolves were unable to bring runners home in the sixth and seventh, and Alfred won the game 3-1.
