Wolves Downed by Cardinals on Monday

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team was swept in an Empire 8 Conference doubleheader against St. John Fisher University on Monday at Finger Lakes Community College.

Keuka College (3-19, 2-7 Empire 8) lost the opener 12-8 and then fell in the nightcap to the Cardinals 18-2.

The Wolves took advantage of St. John Fisher miscues in the first inning. The Green and Gold plated three runs without a hit for the early advantage.

The Cardinals threatened in the second, but Alex Evans made a catch in shallow right and threw out the runner at the plate for a double play to end the inning.

Ian Ruhmel led off the second with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. Later, two runs came home on a bases-loaded ground-rule double by RJ Murphy to make it 6-0. One more came in on a wild pitch as the Wolves led 7-0 after two.

St. John Fisher scored two in the third, but the Wolves got one back in the bottom of the inning. Alex Evans led off with a double and scored on an RBI single by Mike Dutch, but that would be the final runs of the game for the Wolves.

The Cardinals made it a one-run game with five runs in the fourth and took the lead with four in the sixth on their way to the 12-8 victory.

The Cardinals scored three in the top of the first, but the Wolves had a quick answer in the bottom of the inning. Carlos Fantauzzi tripled to left centerfield and RJ Murphy followed with a ground-rule double in the same gap to make it 3-1.

St. John Fisher extended their lead with two runs in the third and a run in the fifth to make it 6-1. The Cardinals put the game away with ten runs in the sixth. The visitors continued onto the 18-2 victory.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves are right back in action on Tuesday with a pair of games in Geneva against Hobart College.
