HOUGHTON, N.Y. — Keuka College Softball won a pair of Empire 8 games on Saturday afternoon against Houghton University.
Keuka College (7-10, 3-1 Empire 8) won game one 6-3 and defeated the Highlanders 6-2 in game two.
Keuka College 6 – Houghton University 3
In the first inning and with two outs,
Hailey Jasinski (Buffalo, N.Y. / North Collins) hit a single and proceeded to steal second base.
Makenna DeMoney (Conklin, N.Y. / Susquehanna Valley)then hit a single to center field to bring Jasinski home for the first run of the game.
The Highlanders scored one in the bottom of the inning and two more in the third to go up 3-1. However, the Wolves were ready to run the bases in the top of the fourth. The inning started with
Kaitlyn Holland (Leicester, N.Y. / York) hitting a single and reaching second on a Houghton error.
Emily Cutrona (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) put the ball in play and reached first on another error, while moving Holland over to third. Cutrona then proceeded to steal second.
Olivia Flynn (Williamson, N.Y. / Williamson) hit a sacrifice fly to bring Holland home.
Hailey Jasinski and
Makenna DeMoney each drew walks to load the bases, which brought
Grace Eagen (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) to the plate. Eagen singled to center field, bringing in two additional runs. The defense sat down the first three Houghton batters in the bottom of the fourth, with pitcher
Olivia Flynn at the helm.
The fifth inning passed without any runs scored by either team, but the Wolves looked to add to their lead in the sixth.
Hailey Jasinski and
Makenna DeMoney hit back-to-back home runs for Keuka to extend their lead to three runs. While the Wolves did not add any runs in the seventh, the defense got the first three batters out in the bottom of the inning to win the game 6-3.

The game began in a pitching duel as there were no hits recorded until the top of the third inning. The first hit of the game came from Keuka pitcher
Hali Jenner (Waverly, N.Y. Waverly) when she singled to center field, however, the game remained scoreless through the first three.
In the top of the fourth,
Hailey Jasinski hit a triple to right field and was brought home as
Makenna DeMoney singled to right field. After keeping the Highlanders off the board, the game went into the top of the fifth with the Wolves up 1-0.
Kaitlyn Holland reached first base on a fielding error but advanced to second when
Haley Mascho hit into a fielder's choice play and was out at first base.
Emily Cutrona singled to left field, bringing Holland to third base. On a passed ball, Cutrona stole second and Holland stole home. With a runner still on base,
Olivia Flynn tripled to right field to bring in the runner. For the final Keuka run of the inning,
Hailey Jasinski grounded out to the shortstop, but Flynn was able to score to give the Wolves a 4-0 lead.
The Highlanders earned one back in the bottom of the sixth but the Wolves were ready to answer. Leadoff hitter
Emily Cutrona led off with a single and stole second base.
Olivia Flynn kept her streak alive and hit a double, bringing in Cutrona. The final run of the game was
Makenna DeMoney hitting into a fielder's choice play which brought Flynn home. The Wolves defeated the Highlanders 6-1 in game two.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Green and Gold will play another Empire 8 doubleheader on Monday against Alfred University. The home games will be played at Finger Lakes Community College due to weather conditions and the first pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
