— The Keuka College Women's Basketball lost the second game of the Keystone College Tournament to Spalding University 62-35 on Saturday afternoon.
Sydney Brown (Lowville, N.Y. / Lowville Academy) led the way for the Wolves with four three-pointers, totaling 12 points.
Brooke Burd (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) and
(Canandaigua, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman) contributed heavily on the boards, with 11 rebounds each.
Spalding University 62 vs. Keuka College 35
Spalding University jumped out to an early lead after going on a 6-0 run. However, the Wolves brought the game back within one with their own five-point run on the heels of a
Mary Cotter (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) three-pointer. From there, Spalding scored 16 unanswered points to take the game into the second quarter up 21-5.
The Golden Eagles scored the first basket of the frame, but
Sydney Brown quickly responded with a baseline three-pointer. Spalding continued to capitalize on Keuka turnovers, going on a seven-point run. The run ended with Brown hitting back-to-back threes.
Ellen Lavonas (Rochester, N.Y. / Brighton) contributed a made free-throw, but the Golden Eagles continued their offensive push. The game went into the break with the Wolves down 38-15.
The Wolves were the first ones on the board to start the third, with
Sydney Brown's fourth three-pointer of the game. Spalding responded with a 10-0 run to widen their lead.
Lillian Mullen (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) answered by driving down the baseline and hitting a jumper to end the run. The Golden Eagles proceeded to control the ball and took the game into the final quarter up 52-24.
The Spalding University fouls kept the Wolves at the foul line in the fourth quarter.
Janea Hamilton-Brown (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool),
Brooke Burd, and
Mary Cotter all hit a pair of free throws in the frame.
Sophia Babcock (Oswego, N.Y. / Oswego) hit a three in the final minute to help the Wolves win the final quarter 11-10. However, the gap was too large to close and the Wolves lost 62-35.
