KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Field Hockey team earned a big Empire 8 Conference victory, defeating Nazareth University 4-2 under the lights at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex on Friday.
Erin Patterson scored a pair of goals for Keuka College (2-4, 1-1 Empire 8).
Makaela Mills assisted on both of Patterson's goals.
Kirstin Billings and
Tori Nelson added goals for the Wolves and
Jordan Nichols made 11 saves in the win.
Keuka College 4 vs. Nazareth University 2
Both sides had chances in the opening frame. Nazareth had the advantage in shots 6-3, but Nichols stopped the three shots on goal to keep the game scoreless. Both teams had their chances with four corners each, but the game remained 0-0.
The Wolves were able to flip the field in the second quarter, outshooting Nazareth 5-1. Keuka College would take the lead five minutes before half as
Kirstin Billings found the back of the goal. The Wolves carried that 1-0 advantage into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Wolves kept the momentum as
Makaela Mills found
Erin Patterson down the middle for the goal, making it 2-0. The Golden Flyers pulled one back, but Keuka College remained ahead 2-1 going into the final quarter.
Midway through the fourth, the Wolves were awarded a penalty stroke.
Tori Nelson, the career program leader in stroke goals, stepped up. She let a hard shot go which was deflected by the goalie, but the velocity of the ball drove it into the back of the goal to make it 3-1. It was an important goal as Nazareth cut it to a one-goal game with 2:23 left to play, but Mills and Patterson connected for one more goal in the final minute to seal the Empire 8 victory.

- Nazareth had the edge in shots 20-17, but Keuka College had a 17-9 advantage in corners
- With her two assists, Makaela Mills extends her school record for assists in a career and moves into a tie for second with 54 points in her career
- It was the fourth stroke goal of Tori Nelson's career
- Jordan Nichols moves into sole possession of second on the Keuka College career wins list

Up Next for Keuka College: Friday began a stretch of five straight home games for the Wolves. Next up for the Green and Gold will be a midweek tilt against St. John Fisher University. The Wolves and Cardinals will square off in an Empire 8 game on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
