Keuka College Men’s Lacrosse Earns First Empire 8 Victory on Senior Day

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Men's Lacrosse team recorded the program's first Empire 8 Conference victory with a 20-3 performance against Medaille University on Senior Day at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Playing in his final game at Keuka College (6-6, 1-5 Empire 8), senior Brandon MacDonell had a career performance. He recorded a career-best 10 total points with six goals and four assists on the afternoon. Matt Jerman matched him with six goals, and Devon Gerhardt posted eight total points with a goal and a career-best seven assists.

Medaille opened the scoring on Wednesday, but the Wolves settled into the game. Back-to-back goals by Matt Jerman got the Wolves on the board and Dylan DeLucia followed with a tally. The Mavericks pulled one back but Keuka College added a pair in the final two minutes to lead 5-2 after one.

The defense for both teams was strong to start the second quarter. Keuka College got the first goal of the frame over six minutes into the action as Devon Gerhardt set up Kyle Murphy for the goal. Medaille responded with 7:12 left in the half, but it would be the final goal of the game for the Mavericks. The Wolves closed the quarter with two goals by MacDonell and two goals by Jerman to lead 10-3 at the half.

Devon Gerhardt assisted on the first three goals of the second half for Keuka College with Jerman, Robert Hill, and MacDonell getting the goals. Dylan DeLucia had an unassisted effort. Matt Jerman closed the quarter with his third man-up goal of the game. Gerhardt had the assist and Keuka College led 15-3 after three.

The Wolves closed it out with five more goals in the fourth. Brandon MacDonell scored on the man-down for Keuka to open the scoring. Nicholas Pipher scored less than a minute later. MacDonell scored his sixth of the game just 21 seconds after that. A minute later, Kyle Murphy, but then Keuka would work the ball and chew the clock. Nicholas Pipher scored the final goal on the man-up as the Wolves defeated Medaille 20-3.

  • Logan McMurtry had a strong defensive game with a team-leading and career-best five caused turnovers
  • It was also a career game for senior Salvatore Franzone. The senior made his first career start and had a career-best three caused turnovers on defense
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves have one game left in their 2023 season. Keuka College will travel to Russell Sage College on Saturday, April 29 for their final game. The Empire 8 Conference matchup is scheduled to start at noon.
