ALBANY, N.Y. — The Keuka College Men's Lacrosse team lost their final game of the 2023 season, falling on the road 15-11 to Russell Sage College in an Empire 8 matchup.
Playing in his final game for the Wolves,
Brandon MacDonell had another strong game. The senior finished with six goals and an assist to pace the Keuka College (6-7, 1-6 Empire 8) offense.
Russell Sage College 15 vs. Keuka College 11
The Wolves struck first with
Brandon MacDonell netting the opening goal 3:20 into the quarter. But the offense would slow as the two teams combined for nine saves in the first. Russell Sage scored with three minutes left in the quarter, but the game would only be tied for 14 seconds.
Enrique Castillo won the ensuing faceoff and scored to give Keuka the lead. The Gators responded a minute later to tie the game at 2-2 after one.
Russell Sage had a big second quarter, outscoring the Wolves 5-2 in the frame. MacDonell scored early in the second to tie the game at 3-3, but Sage would score three unanswered to build the lead.
Nicholas Pipher ended the run, scoring on an extra-man opportunity, but Russell Sage scored with 30 seconds left to lead 7-4 at the half.
Keuka College answered the 5-2 quarter by Sage with one of their own in the third.
Matt Jerman and Pipher scored for the Wolves to cut the margin to one. Russell Sage matched those two, but the Wolves closed the third with three straight. After having three assists earlier in the game,
Devon Gerhardt scored for the Wolves.
Brandon MacDonell closed the quarter with a pair of goals to tie the game at 9-9 going into the fourth.
MacDonell kept the personal run going, getting his third straight, this time on the man-up, to give the Wolves the lead 31 seconds into the fourth. Russell Sage tied the game, but the Wolves answered back less than a minute later with MacDonell netting his sixth of the game with 12:47 left in regulation. However, that would be the last goal of the game for Keuka College. Russell Sage scored the final five goals of the game to defeat the Wolves 15-11.
KC Notes:
- Saturday was only the second-ever meeting between Russell Sage and Keuka. The Gators have won both games
- The Wolves had the advantage on faceoffs, winning 18 of 28 against the Gators. Castillo and Stephen Baier split the action at the X and both went 9-14
- Baier moved to sixth on the career faceoff wins list and won the eighth-most faceoffs in a single season in program history
- Devon Gerhardt finished with 60 points on the year, tying for seventh-most in a season. He finished with the third-most assists, 37, in a season in program history
- Dylan Hoad made 15 saves in goal for the Wolves. He finished with 154 on the season, fifth-most in program history
- Brandon MacDonell finished his senior season with a team-high and personal best 36 goals. He also added 15 assists to surpass 50 points on the year
