Baseball Takes Game One in Series Against Gators

ALBANY, N.Y. - On Friday afternoon, the Keuka College Baseball team defeated the Russell Sage College Gators in game one of their three-game series in Albany.

Keuka College (6-17, 2-8 E8) defeated Russell Sage College (13-18, 6-7 E8) 6-3. Josh Tryon (Elmira, N.Y. / Thomas A. Edison) led the Wolves' offense going three-for-four with two RBIs. Tryon, Tyler Lewandowski (Milltown, N.J. / Spotswood), and Samuel O'Neil (Macedon, N.Y. / Ruben A. Cirillo) all had doubles in the game with RBIs and Jared Beckley (Windsor, N.Y. / Windsor) pitched the full game on the mound for the Wolves only allowing three runs and striking out one.

The Wolves took control of the game in the top of the second. Josh Tryon doubled to right-center field with one out. Donald Nemeth (Guilderland, N.Y. / Nemeth) grounded out to third base, advancing Tryon to third base and Samuel O'Neil knocked in Tryon with a double to right field to score the Wolves' first run of the game.
The Green & Gold tacked on two more runs when Tryon singled again to right field knocking in RJ Murphy (Syracuse, N.Y. / West Genesee) and Nolan Quinn (Aurora, OH / Walsh Jesuit).

The Gators scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the third off a single and then went on to tie the game 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth from a sacrifice fly and a single.
The game was not tied long as the Wolves came back in the sixth inning. Tryon scored the fourth run for the Wolves off a wild pitch by the Gators. Shane Daley (Elma. N.Y. / Iroquois) hit a ground ball to second base to score Nemeth for the Wolves' fifth run and Lewandowski hit a hard-line drive to center field to score the sixth and final run for the Green & Gold.

Jared Beckley went the distance for the Wolves on the mound. Beckley worked efficiently shutting down the Gator offense for seven of the game's nine innings. Beckley struck out one while only allowing eight hits and two walks earning his second win of the season.

  • The Keuka College Baseball team is now 3-2 all-time against Russell Sage College.
  • Three runs is the fewest the Wolves have allowed against Russell Sage College in a game.
  • Jared Beckley now has eight career wins, putting him in a tie for sixth all-time.
  • Beckley also threw a new career high with nine innings pitched in the game today.
  • Tyler Lewandowski now has 15 hits this season, a new personal best.
  • Lewandowski also continues his personal best-hitting streak to nine games.
