Men’s Lacrosse Moves to 4-1 with Win over Keystone

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Men's Lacrosse team won their fourth straight game on Saturday with a 20-4 victory over Keystone College at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Senior Brandon MacDonell scored six goals and added a pair of assists for Keuka College (4-1, 0-0 Empire 8). Kyle Murphy, Devon Gerhardt, and Matt Jerman all recorded hat tricks in the win.

The Wolves led from the beginning and did not look back. Brandon MacDonell netted the first goal three minutes into the game to open the scoring. A pair of tallies by Gerhardt followed before MacDonell got his second. The Wolves would outscore the Giants 5-0 in the first quarter.

Gerhardt completed the hat trick early in the second quarter. The shutout streak for the Wolves ended 23:20 into the game as Keystone got on the board. Nicholas Pipher scored for the Wolves, but Keystone had a goal to match. The Wolves led 7-2 at the half.

The third quarter would be a lengthy quarter with an injury delay followed by a 27-minute weather delay. Dylan DeLucia scored for the Wolves just before the delay. Following the delay, DeLucia set up MacDonell for the goal as he completed the hat trick. The Wolves would be out and running as Keuka College put the game away in the frame. Keuka outscored Keystone 8-2 in the third to carry a double-digit lead, 15-4, into the final quarter.

Keuka College saw the game out in the fourth. Keuka College scored five goals in the frame while Dylan Hoad made a pair of saves and kept Keystone off the board. The Wolves continued onto the 20-4 victory.

KC Notes:
  • Saturday was the battle of the KC's with Keuka College and Keystone College facing each other. It was the first time Keuka and Keystone have meet in men's lacrosse. The Giants are the 61st different opponent Keuka has faced in 35 seasons
  • Brandon MacDonell tied his career high, set earlier this season, with six goals. The eight total points are a new career best for the senior
  • Devon Gerhardt led the Wolves in assists with four on Saturday, giving him seven points in the game
  • Stephen Baier went 22-29 on faceoffs and led the Wolves with 10 ground balls
  • Robert Hill had a strong game, scoring his third goal of the season, causing three turnovers, and collecting five ground balls
  • The Wolves had 70 shots in the win, the third-most in program history
  • Dylan Hoad finsihed with eight saves for the Wolves
  • The win was the fourth of the season for the Wolves and Interim Head Coach Ty Trombley. Just the fifth coach in program history, Trombley now sits third in wins in the record book.
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves open Empire 8 play on March 29 as Keuka College travels to Nazareth College to face the Golden Flyers. The opening faceoff is set for 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
