Laurinitis Strikes Out 12 in Wolves Loss to Union College

DAVENPORT, Fla.- The Keuka College Baseball team (2-5, 0-0 Empire 8) dropped a game to Union College with a score of 5-2 on Thursday afternoon.  

Connor Springer (Irondequoit, N.Y. / Irondequoit) and Ethan Drinon (Middleburgh, N.Y. / Schoharie) had the only RBIs for the Wolves with back-to-back singles to keep the Wolves alive in the ninth. Anthony Laurinitis (Philadelphia, PA / Father Judge) threw most of the game for the Wolves, yielding 12 strikeouts in just six innings.

The Dutchmen took control of the game early putting one run up on the board in the bottom of the first inning. The Wolves were unable to manufacture a run on offense
and in the bottom of the fourth, the Dutchmen tacked on three more runs making the score 4-0. Tyler Lewandowski (Milltown, NJ / Spotswood), Nolan Quinn (Aurora,
OH / Walsh Jesuit), and Josh Tryon (Elmira, N.Y. / Thomas A. Edison) all found their way on base with singles to the outfield, but the Wolves were not able to get a
run across the plate.

Anthony Laurinitis kept the Dutchmen offense off-balance throwing six innings with 12 strikeouts and only six hits. In the bottom of the eighth. Union College crossed their fifth and final run of the game leaving the Wolves one last chance to score in the top of the ninth.

The Wolves were able to string some hits together in the last inning to prevent a shutout. Donald Nemeth (Guilderland, N.Y. / Guilderland) led off the inning by
beating out an infield hit followed by a walk by Tryon. Connor Springer came up big for the Wolves with a single to right field, knocking in the Wolves' first run. With two
outs, Ethan Drinon followed behind Springer with a single of his own knocking in Tryon to score the second run for the Wolves. Ultimately, the Wolves were unable to
come all the way back and finished the game with a 5-2 loss.  
 
KC Notes:
  • Keuka College Baseball is 0-5 against Union College all-time. The last time they faced off was in Florida last year for a doubleheader.
  • Anthony Laurinitis is now tied for second for strikeouts in a single game with 12. This is also a career best for Laurinitis.
  • Laurinitis now has recorded 37 strikeouts in his career in just 36 innings.
