Volleyball Falls to Houghton 3-1

HOUGHTON, N.Y. — The Keuka College Volleyball Team (7-13, 3-4) lost to the Houghton University Highlanders (8-12, 5-3) 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in Houghton, N.Y.

Ava Hubbard (Avon, N.Y./ Avon) led the team with 13 kills. Casey Hunziker (Rome, N.Y./ Rome Free Academy) registered 38 assists in the match.

The Highlanders got out to a quick start in set one jumping up to a 5-0 lead. The Wolves fought their way back bringing the score to an even 13-13. After a kill from Cameron Knapp (Horseheads, N.Y./ Horseheads) and a service ace from Casey Hunziker, the Wolves took the lead and went on to win the set 25-22.

The second set started out even, but the Highlanders had a six-point run to put them up 11-4. The Highlanders reached game point at 24-14.  Dayna Edholm (Buffalo, N.Y./ Sweet Home) kept the game alive with a kill, but the Wolves ultimately fell in the second set 25-16.

The Wolves took the lead in the third. Back-to-back kills from Ava Hubbard put the Wolves up 6-2. The Highlanders battled back evening the game at 10-10From there the Highlanders took the lead with the Wolves closely trailing. A service ace from Kendra Waltz (Morrisville, N.Y./ Morrisville – Eaton) tied the game 24-24, but again the Highlanders took the set winning 26-24.

The Highlanders controlled the fourth set holding the lead for the entirety of the game. Kills from multiple Wolves tried to keep the game alive, but the Highlanders took the set 25-13 and the match 3-1.

  • Keuka College is now 2-14 all-time against Houghton University.
  • The first match played between the two schools was in 1975.
  • With her 38 assists in the match, Casey Hunziker has reached 500 assists this season.
  • Cameron Knapp and Dayna Edholm have both now achieved 200 kills in their careers.
