Wolves Earn Third Conference Win Against Mavericks

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Keuka College Volleyball Team (7-12, 3-3) defeated the Medaille University Mavericks (4-18, 2-5) on Friday night.

Megan McCann (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) led the team with 13 kills. Caitlynne Marczyk (Livonia, N.Y./ Livonia) had six serving aces, a game-high personal best. Kendra Waltz (Morrisville, N.Y./ Morrisville-Eaton) had her own game-high personal best with five serving aces along with another personal game best, 25 digs.

Keuka College 3 at Medaille University 2:
The Wolves started gameplay evenly with the Mavericks on Friday night.  Once the score reached 5-5, the Wolves took off to 21-15 lead, going on a six-point run at one point. The Mavericks had an answer going on a five-point run of their own to make the game 21-20. A kill from Ava Hubbard (Avon, N.Y./ Avon) broke the Maverick's run. A serving ace from the Mavericks tied the set 24-24. Play went back and forth until two consecutive kills from the Mavericks put them on top 28-26 to win the first set.

Again, in the second set, gameplay started out even. Both teams went back and forth to keep the score close. A service error from the Mavericks started an eleven-point run for the Wolves making the score 22-10. The final kill from Megan McCann won the set for the Wolves 25-12.

The third set proved to be the strongest for the Wolves. After being tied 1-1, the Wolves kept the lead for the rest of the set. Kills from five different Wolves and service aces from four led to a 25-15 win for the Wolves.

The Mavericks came back strong in the fourth set. They held the lead for the entirety of the set. The Wolves produced 15 kills against the Mavericks' 11, but Medaille had no attack errors compared to the Wolves' five. The Mavericks also registered four blocks bringing them to a 25-21 win.

It was the Wolves' turn to lead the whole game in the fifth set. Megan McCann led Keuka College with four of the six Wolves kills this set. The Wolves also managed two serving aces to bring them to a 15-8 win in the final set and a 3-2 win in the match over the Medaille University Mavericks.

  • Keuka College is now 11-10 all-time against Medaille University.
  • Casey Hunziker (Rome, N.Y./ Rome Free Academy) reached a personal game-high with 47 assists.
  • Dayna Edholm (Buffalo, N.Y./ Sweet Home) reached a personal game-high with 28 digs.
  • With seven kills tonight, Cameron Knapp (Horseheads, N.Y./ Horseheads) reached over 100 kills this season.
  • Kendra Waltz has also reached over 100 career digs after tonight's game.
  • The Wolves move into second place in the record book for total serving aces as a team in a single 5-set match with 19 aces.
