Volleyball Sweeps Saturday Tri-Match

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Volleyball Team won both of their matches on Saturday at the JMW Recreation and Athletic Complex.

Keuka College (4-10, 0-2) beat Hilbert College in 3 sets to 0 in their first match. The Wolves then went on to defeat SUNY Poly 3-1 in the second match.

Keuka College 3 vs Hilbert College 0 – 25-8, 25-15, 25-22
Keuka College started out strong in the first set jumping up to an early lead and held strong for most of the match with just one lead change throughout. The Wolves had 10 kills with only two errors compared to the Hilbert College Hawks who had five kills and seven errors.  The Wolves were able to capitalize and stay on top with a 25-8 final score in the first set.

The Wolves entered set two ready to go, but the Hawks were able to match play for the beginning of the set. Both the Wolves and the Hawks had a team total of nine kills in the set, but the Wolves managed fewer errors putting them ahead to win the set 25-25.

The third set proved to be a challenge to the Wolves as the hawks would not go down without a fight. The Hawks produced 12 kills which the Wolves were just able to top with 13 leading the Wolves to a 25-22 win and a 3-0 final score.
Lead Wolf: Casey Hunziker (Rome, N.Y., Rome Free Academy) led the Wolves to victory with six serving aces, a single-match career high, along with 20 assists in the first game.  

Keuka College 3 vs SUNY Poly 1 – 25-16, 25-10, 24-26, 25-11

After a break following their first win of the day, the Wolves started out evenly with the SUNY Poly Wildcats in their first two sets. Two aces in a row from Dayna Edholm (Buffalo, N.Y., Sweet Home) in the first helped propel the Wolves to a steady lead. The Wolves managed eight kills as a team to earn a 25-16 victory in the first set. Keuka College carried momentum right into the second set where they had 10 kills as a team with only four errors to win 25-10.

The third set proved to be more of a challenge as the Wildcats fought back hard with 10 team kills of their own. The Wolves were unable to keep their number of errors low and ultimately dropped the third set 24-26.

The fourth set showcased the Wolves best action of the day as they manufactured 12 kills compared to the Wildcats two and went on to win the set 25-11 and the match 3-1.
Lead Wolf: Sydney Haust ( Seneca Falls, N.Y., Mynderse Academy) had five serving aces in the second match along with nine kills and 15 digs.

  • Keuka College is 29-3 against the Hilbert College Hawks and 18-13 against the SUNY Poly Wildcats.
  • Casey Hunziker reached a new career high in aces with six in one match against Hilbert College and matched it in the second game against SUNY Poly as well.
  • Sydney Haust also reached a new career high in aces against SUNY Poly with five.
