UTICA, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Volleyball Team lost 3-1 in a tough-fought Empire 8 Conference matchup against the Utica University Pioneers on Wednesday night.

Dayna Edholm (Buffalo, N.Y./ Sweet Home) led the team with 15 kills and 27 digs. Ava Hubbard (Avon, N.Y./ Avon) registered 14 kills and two serving aces. Casey Hunziker (Rome, N.Y./ Rome Free Academy) had 36 assists and three serving aces.

The Keuka College Wolves and the Utica Pioneers immediately found themselves in an evenly fought match on Wednesday night. The Wolves found their biggest lead of the game leading 19-15 after a service ace from Caitlynne Marczyk (Livonia, N.Y./ Livonia). Both teams would go back and forth taking the lead until the final kill from Dayna Edholm gave the Wolves the win 30-28.

The Pioneers got out to a quick 13-6 lead in the second set. Caitlynne Marczyk provided 4 serves in a row, two of which were aces, to bring the wolves back to 10-13. The Pioneers took back control and found themselves ahead 22-11, but the Wolves continued to fight back bringing the score to 23-18. The next volley brought the Pioneers to game point and an attack error from the Wolves gave the Pioneers a 25-18 win in the second set.

The Wolves jumped out to a quick 4-2 lead in the third. A strong block from Ava Hubbard and Bryn Straub (Irondequoit, N.Y./ Irondequoit) brought the Wolves to an 8-4 lead, but the Pioneers fought back to take the lead 9-8. The Pioneers held a strong lead for most of the game, but a kill from Ava Hubbard brought the Wolves within two with a score of 21-19. A well-placed kill from Cameron Knapp (Horseheads, N.Y./ Horseheads) tied the game 21-21. An attack error by the Pioneers brought the Wolves to a 22-22 score, but the Pioneers took the final three points of the game resulting in a 25-22 loss for the Wolves.

Keuka College was able to gain a quick lead in the fourth set thanks to two serving aces in a row from Casey Hunziker. Back-to-back kills from Ava Hubbard gave the Wolves a 10-5 lead. The Pioneers fought to take a 19-18 lead, but the Wolves quickly came back going up 23-21 after a kill from Dayna Edholm. Ultimately, the Pioneers were able to put together four straight points defeating the Wolves 25-23 and winning the match.

• Emma Sipos (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua Academy) registered 10 digs in tonight's match bringing her to her 500th career dig.
• Both Dayna Edholm and Ava Hubbard reached their single-game career high in kills. Edholm registered 15 and Hubbard registered 14.
• Dayna Edholm also reached her single-game career high in digs with 27.
