Box Score

ONEONTA, N.Y. — After trailing 2-0 at the half, the Keuka College Women's Soccer team got one back, but could not complete the comeback as they lost to Smith College 2-1 in the Erinn K. Brozman Cup at Hartwick College.

Cassidy Walsh netted the lone goal for Keuka College (0-2). Sam Pelcher made eight saves in goal for the Wolves.

Smith College 2 vs. Keuka College 1

Possession was even in the early minutes and the Wolves gained the first quality chance to score. A foul by Smith gave Keuka College a free kick just outside the box left of goal. Grace Wolf took the kick, but her effort went over the crossbar. The Pioneers opened the scoring, however, in the 18th minute as a long effort shot from Smith dipped under the crossbar to make it 1-0. Smith would remain on the front foot for the rest of the half. The Pioneers added a second in the 40th minute to double their lead. The Green and Gold had a chance on a corner kick in the closing minutes of the half, but the Pioneers cleared the threat and held a two-goal lead at the half.

Both sides traded chances in the second half, but the Pioneers held their 2-0 advantage until late. In the 83rd minute, the two teams battled for possession around the midfield stripe. Keuka gained control on their side of midfield and volleyed a ball into the open field behind the Pioneer defenders. Cassidy Walsh outran the closet defender to gain possession and let a shot from 25 yards out. The shot went over the keeper and into the far side of the goal to make it 2-1. Smith was able to possess the ball enough to see the game out, however. Keuka had one late chance but their shot from distance went wide. The Pioneers held on to defeat the Wolves 2-1.

KC Notes:

  • It was the first-ever meeting between Keuka College and Smith College on the pitch
  • Keuka College was playing in the Erinn K. Brozman Cup at Hartwick for the sixth time overall and for the fifth season in a row. Keuka is now 3-8 all-time in the tournament
