KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team lost an Empire 8 match against Utica College in five sets at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center on Saturday.

Keuka College (4-8, 1-1 Empire 8) was led by a pair of career-highs. Megan McCann led the attack with a career-best 17 kills and Ericka Carlson anchored the defense with a career-best 34 digs.

Utica College 3 at Keuka College 2 – 25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-11

The Green and Gold took the first two points of the match, but then the Pioneers created a gap. Utica converted the next 12 points to take a 12-2 lead. The Wolves did not go away. A kill by Lillian Mueller cut the difference to one at 22-21, but the Pioneers saw it out for the 25-22 opening-set victory.

Keuka College took their turn to push an early lead, opening the second with a 9-3 advantage that was later pushed to 13-4. A run by the Pioneers narrowed the gap, but the Green and Gold converted the final five points. It was capped by a Delaney Yorks ace and an error by Utica as the Wolves won the second 25-21 to level the match.

The third set opened tightly, but Utica College created separation midway through the set with a 9-1 run to build a 15-12 lead and force Keuka into a timeout. A kill by Cameron Knapp would tie the third at 21-21, but the Pioneers took four of the final five points to win the third 25-22 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.

Keuka College did not give in and would tie the match in the fourth. It was the closest played set of the day with the score being tied nine times and the lead changing hands four. The Wolves again used a strong close to end the set. Megan McCann hit a kill for the Wolves to send the match to a fifth set with Keuka winning the fourth 25-21.

The two teams traded points early in the fifth, but five straight by the guests gave Utica a 9-4 advantage. Keuka College would be unable to overtake that final margin. The Wolves got it to within two, but it would be the closest they would get it as Utica College scored the final two points to win the fifth 15-11 and take the match.

• It was the first time Keuka has lost to Utica College in five sets. The Wolves prevailed the previous five times the match went the distance. The six times seeing the five sets is the second-most five-set matches against a single opponent in Keuka College history
• Keuka College falls to 1-5 in five-set matches this season. The six five-set matches tie the 2009 and 2013 seasons for most in a single year
• In total, Keuka College had 210 attacks on Saturday, setting the record for most in a five-set match and second-most in any match in program history
• It was the third time this season that Keuka had 15 aces as a team in a five-set match
• 34 digs by Carlson tied for sixth-most in a five-set match at Keuka
• Lauren Kuipers added 15 digs for the Wolves, surpassing 500 for her career
