Wolves Fight For Five; Fall at Oswego State

OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team battled from 2-0 down to force a fifth set but would lose in five at Oswego State on Wednesday night.

Tionna Moss led Keuka College (0-1) with 11 kills in the game. Delaney Yorks had 20 assists and 15 digs for the Wolves. Lauren Kuipers led the Green and Gold and posted a match-high 16 digs.

On the first hit of the season, Casey Hunziker made it count with a service ace for the Wolves. The Lakers would take the lead back early in the frame and hold it throughout as they won the opener 25-19.

The hosts jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the second set and did not look back. Oswego hit .429 in the set while the Wolves had a negative percentage. The Lakers won the second 25-13 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The service line was kind to the Wolves again as Keuka College opened the third with four straight aces by Lauren Kuipers. The Wolves would hold the lead into the set until the final points. Keuka had a chance serving on set point at 24-23, but a poor set leveled the set. Then Oswego would pull ahead and serve on match point, but a service error tied the set at 25-25. Ava Hubbard put the ball to the court for Keuka to make it 26-25 and the Wolves would win the set on an attack error by Oswego to take the third 27-25.

The fourth was a back and forth set that featured nine ties and six lead changes. The Wolves would pull ahead late and put it away with an ace by Delaney Yorks followed by a kill for Tionna Moss to win the fourth 25-21 and force a fifth and final set.

The Lakers and Wolves exchanged the lead early in the fifth, but it was Oswego that forced the changeover at 8-6. That would be as close as Keuka would make it. The Lakers stayed on the front foot to close out the fifth 15-11 to win the match.

  • Keuka had 15 aces in the match, cracking the top ten for most in a five-set match. Six came from senior Lauren Kuipers, a career-high and tied for third-most in a five-set match in program history
  • Keuka College's last five-set win came in September 2018 as they defeated SUNY Canton in the Keuka College Invitational

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves return home this weekend and host the Keuka College Invitational. The two-day tournament at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center will feature Keuka College taking on King's College and Hilbert College on Friday. The Wolves will then square off with Mount St. Mary College and Wells College on Saturday.
