Men's Soccer Season Ends in Double Overtime

ALFRED, N.Y. — The Keuka College Men's Soccer team lost in double overtime 2-1 at Alfred University in an Empire 8 Conference game on Saturday afternoon.

The loss concludes Keuka College's 2021 season. The Wolves finished 3-11-2 on the season and 1-6-1 within the Empire 8.

The Wolves opened the game strong against the Saxons as Keuka College had offensive chances early. Thomas Callery let a shot go 12 minutes in that rattled off the crossbar, but Connor Thorpe was able to find the back of the goal seconds later for the 1-0 lead. The Green and Gold continued to attack the Saxons. Keuka outshot Alfred 7-4 in the half and had six corner kicks to the Saxons' one. Keuka College maintained their 1-0 lead at the half.

The game flipped in the second half. Alfred attacked the Keuka end with 15 shots in the half as they hunted the tying goal. The pressure also resulted in six corners for Alfred. The pressure paid off for the hosts as the Saxons leveled the game with nine minutes remaining. Keuka keeper Cory Cangemi made a pair of saves in the closing minutes to keep the game tied after 90 minutes.

The first overtime was a slow battle for possession. The Saxons had a chance early that was saved. Keuka's best chance came in the final minutes with a corner kick and a header that would go wide of goal.

In the second overtime, Keuka had a shot by Callery that was saved. The Saxons rebounded to get a corner kick and seconds after that, they scored the game-winning goal at 102:34 to defeat the Wolves 2-1.

KC Notes:

  • Keuka College had its two-game winning streak over Alfred snapped. The Wolves are now 7-11-3 all-time against the Saxons
  • It was the second straight season that Keuka College Men's Soccer has had their season end in double overtime. The Wolves lost to Penn St.-Harrisburg in double overtime of the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship in 2019

Cory Cangemi made five saves in the game. The freshman finished his first season with 86 on the season, ninth-most in a season in program history
