Women's Volleyball Continues Postseason Hunt with Sweep of Houghton

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team continued their pursuit of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament with a straight-set victory over Houghton College at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center on Wednesday night.

Keuka College (8-13, 3-4 Empire 8) was led by Lillian Mueller. Tionna Moss and Megan McCann each added seven kills in the win.

Keuka College 3 vs. Houghton College 0 – 25-23, 25-10, 25-18

The Highlanders jumped out to a fast lead, scoring the first five points in the match on Wednesday. Keuka recovered and drew the game back to level at 11-11. Houghton regained a three-point lead, but the Wolves responded to take the lead themselves and push it to three at 22-19. Houghton survived a pair of set points, but Megan McCann ended it with a kill to take the first set 25-23.

The Green and Gold cruised in the second set. A pair of four-point runs and a nine-point run put Keuka well in control of the set. The Wolves finished the second by one of the widest margins of the season, winning it 25-10, and taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set was closer, but the Wolves would pull away late. At 15-14, Keuka scored five straight to create a margin. A pair of errors on the Highlanders ended it on Wednesday as the Wolves took the third set 25-18, sweeping the match.

KC Notes:

  • It was the first win for Keuka College over Houghton College since 1988
  • Keuka snapped their seven-match losing streak to Houghton and is now 2-13 all-time against the Highlanders
  • Lillian Mueller set a new career-high for hitting percentage, hitting .429 on Wednesday. The senior had only one error against her 10 kills on 21 attempts
  • Tionna Moss surpassed 200 kills on the year and Delaney Yorks surpassed 300 assists in 2021

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves close out the Empire 8 regular season on Friday night as they travel to St. John Fisher College to face the Cardinals. Keuka College will have their postseason destiny in their hands as a win over the Cardinals will secure a berth in the conference tournament.
