Second Half Sinks Wolves Against Saxons

Box Score

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Soccer team lost to Alfred University 3-0 in an Empire 8 game at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.

Alfred University 3 at Keuka College 0

The first half was a battle for possession with both teams battling in the middle third of the field. The Wolves had the first good chance in the 15th minute off of a corner. Morgan Fuller sent the ball in and found the head of Lindsey Garbacz. The freshman nodded it back to the near post but the Saxon keeper dove for the save. The Saxons increased their pressure in the final minutes of the first. They drove down the middle of the field against the Wolves and into the box. Renee Vito made a strong recovery run for the Wolves and swept the ball away from danger. The game would remain scoreless at the half.

Keuka College created another quality change early in the second half. The Wolves flipped the play near midfield from the left to the right. Swinging it around, the ball found the foot of Courtney Mazeau. The freshman played it forward between the Saxon defense to Grace DeCapua streaking forward. As DeCapua entered the box from the left side, she let a right-footed shot go for the far left post, but the Saxon keeper read the shot and shifted over for the save. The Saxons would take that similar play and use it to their advantage in the 66th minute as a through ball freed one of their forwards and the shot to the far post went in to give Alfred the 1-0 lead. The Saxons added a pair of insurance goals in the final 10 minutes to secure the 3-0 victory over Keuka on Wednesday.

KC Notes:

  • The win by Alfred edged them ahead in the all-time series with the Wolves. The Saxons now have a 9-8-5 edge over Keuka College
  • At halftime, the game looked destined for overtime. Keuka has played Alfred beyond the full 90 minutes seven times in total, the most overtime games played against any single opponent in Keuka College Women's Soccer history
  • Jessica Pegg made one save in goal for the Wolves. That moved the senior into a tie for seventh on the career saves list with 210
