Wolves Fall in Five Sets to Oswego State

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Volleyball lost in five sets to Oswego State on Wednesday in a non-conference match at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.

Keuka College (3-10, 2-1 NEAC) was led offensively by Jadine Buddingh. The senior had a match-high 12 kills and a career-high six aces for the Wolves. Alyssa Rex finished with a season-high 35 assists and Emily Cottrell (led the defense with 14 digs in the loss.

Oswego State 3 (21, 25, 21, 25, 15) at Keuka College 2 (25, 23, 25, 20, 12)

Keuka College came out strong on Wednesday night. In the opening set they had 14 kills and only allowed two from the Lakers. The Wolves took the first set 25-21.

Oswego State responded in the second. The set was tied at 23-23, but the Lakers took advantage of an error then hit an ace to win the second 25-23, leveling the match.

The Lakers led the third 9-4, but the Wolves scored 11 of the next 12 points behind the serve of Jadine Buddingh and Emily Cottrell. A kill by Lauren Moelbert closed the set at 25-21, giving the Wolves a 2-1 lead in the match.

Much like the third, Oswego took an early lead in the fourth set. The Wolves made a late run, but the Lakers held onto the set 25-20, forcing a fifth and final set.

After the Wolves got the opening point of the fifth set, Oswego scored the next seven to take control of the set. They led 8-2 at the changeover.  Keuka College strung together five straight points to tie the set at 9-9, but the Lakers regained the lead, pushing it out to 14-10. Keuka tried to mount a comeback, but it was not enough as they fell in the final set 15-12, losing the match 3-2.

  • In the 49th meeting between the two schools, Oswego State won their 33rd match all-time against Keuka College. The Wolves earned 16 wins in the all-time series, dating back to 1975
  • Keuka College has faced Oswego State the second most of any opponent in school history (Cazenovia)
  • The Lakers have won three straight against the Wolves
  • The Wolves are 0-2 in five set matches this season
  • Keuka College tied its season-high with 18 aces on Wednesday

Coming up for Keuka College: The Wolves travel to St. John Fisher College to compete in a tri-match on Saturday. The Wolves will face the host Cardinals and Medaille College at 11am and 1pm, respectively.
