Box Score AURORA, N.Y. – The Keuka College Men's Basketball team closed the game on a 9-0 run to defeat Wells College 65-62 and earn their first North Eastern Athletic Conference victory of the season.
Keuka College (4-6, 1-3) will return home next week for a trio of North Eastern Athletic Conference games. They will host Morrisville State on Wednesday and Penn St.-Abington and Bryn Athyn over the weekend.
Casey Williams set a new career-high with 28 points in the victory. The senior has been in double-digits every game this season.
Williams also added seven rebounds in the game. Greg Tyler was also in double-figures with 11 points and added seven rebounds as well.
Keuka College got out to a quick start on Saturday afternoon. Casey Williams made an early three pointer on Keuka's first shot of the game, and the Green and Gold got out to an early 6-2 advantage. Wells would flip the script on Keuka, however. The Express went on a 17-0 run over the next five minutes. A Dylan Doupe layup stopped the run, but the Express maintained a double-digit advantage for most of the first half. The Green and Gold fought to stay in the game. They outscored Wells College 9-2 over the final five minutes of the half, capped by a three pointer by Greg Tyler, but the Express maintained a 32-26 lead at the half.
Wells opened the second on a quick 5-0 run and reestablished their double-digit advantage over the Green and Gold. Halfway through the second half, a pair of Doupe free throws made the margin seven points, 49-42. With just under two minutes to play, Wells held a 62-56 lead over Keuka. Devin Cooper made a layup for Keuka. Casey Williams forced a steal and turned it into a slam dunk to make it a two point game with 1:16 left to play. 25 seconds later, Williams would be fouled and tied the game from the free throw line. The Express committed an offensive foul with 30 seconds left to play to give the ball back to Keuka with the game tied at 62-62. Casey Williams was fouled with four seconds left to play. He made both to give Keuka a 64-62 lead, their first since the 15:03 mark of the first half. The Express turned the ball over and following a free throw, Keuka earned their first NEAC win of the season, defeating Wells 65-62.
