KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — Multiple members of the Keuka College Men's and Women's Basketball teams were honored by the Rochester Area Chapter of the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) on Tuesday.
Seniors
Lamar Lovelace was named First Team, and
Akinlana Popoola was named Honorable Mention from the Men's team. Head Coach
Tom Wilk was also named their Coach of the Year.
From the Women's team, junior
Brooke Burd earned First Team honors.
Lovelace had a record-setting season for the Wolves. He earned First Team All-Empire 8 Conference and was Tournament MVP. Lovelace set both the Keuka College and Empire 8 Conference single-season scoring record with 636 points.
Akinlana Popoola was his running-mate in the backcourt for the Wolves. The senior earned his second straight All-Empire 8 selection and ranked second on the Wolves with 352 points. Popoola scored 728 in his two seasons at Keuka College.
Brooke Burd led Green and Gold with 268 rebounds this season, fifth-most in a season in program history. She added a personal-best 241 points for the Wolves.
Coach Wilk took over Keuka College in July and led the Green and Gold to their first winning season in ten years. The Wolves won their first Empire 8 Conference Championship in any sport and qualified for their first NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament in program history. He earned the first Coach of the Year honor from the USBWA in program history.
