Box Score READING, Pa. – Baba Waples made a three pointer with three seconds left to left Penn St.-Berks to victory over Keuka College 83-82 on Friday afternoon.
Keuka College now stands at 6-9 on the season and 3-6 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Green and Gold will return to action next weekend when they travel to Morrisville State.
Casey Williams scored 23 points in the loss giving him 1,007 points in his career. The senior is just the 12th player in program history to reach that plateau. Cliff Stevens added 15 points and tied for the team lead with nine rebounds. James Outlaw was also in double-figures with 13 points.
Keuka College got out to an early lead against the Nittany Lions thanks to a fast 10-0 run to make it 14-6, five minutes in. Minutes later, James Outlaw hit a three pointer to give Keuka a 10 point lead, 22-12, with 11 minutes left in the half. This sparked a 7-0 run by Berks as they attempted to stay in the game. A three by Greg Tyler stopped the run, but the Nittany Lions continued to work the margin down. By the six minute mark, the game was tied 32-32. Berks started to push their lead out to as many as eight in the dying minutes of the half. Keuka would get a layup by Dylan Doupe and a three by Casey Williams, both with under a minute to play, to cut into the lead. Penn St.-Berks held a 46-43 lead at the break.
The Nittany Lions remained ahead for a majority of the second half. Keuka was able to take a one or two point lead a couple of times, but Berks quickly had an answer to regain control. With just over six minutes left to play, Keuka began a 7-0 run that drew the game level and gave the Green and Gold a four point lead. With 1:41 left, Dylan Doupe made a layup to give Keuka an 80-74 lead. Berks answered with a three. Cliff Stevens went 2-2 from the line to push the margin back to five points, 82-77 with 58 seconds left. Waples made another three for Berks with 53 seconds left to make it a two point game. Four of the Nittany Lions' last five field goals were three pointers. Keuka would miss a jumper as the shot clock wore down and Berks regained possession. With three seconds left, Waples hit a three pointer to give Berks a, 83-82 lead. Keuka's buzzer-beating three pointer missed to end the game.
