Box Score 2 Senior Trevor Healey (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) posted his eighth double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds, and junior Casey Williams (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) added 19 points with nine rebounds as the Keuka College men's basketball team salvaged a weekend split thanks to a 78-81, come-from-behind victory against Wilson (Pa.) College Sunday in Chambersburg, Pa.
Healey, the reigning North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Player of the Week, stayed red-hot from the floor, shooting 65 percent (13 of 20). With the scoring outburst, Healey sits 25 points away from becoming just the 11th student-athlete in Keuka's men's basketball program to reach 1,000 career points.
Williams shot 66.7 percent (8 of 12) to help Keuka (11-7, 8-4 NEAC) complete the comeback.
The Phoenix (3-15, 2-12) led 57-44 halfway through the second before the Green and Gold rallied.
Williams hit a layup to spark a crucial 26-7 run as Keuka seized control. Williams scored 10 points during the spurt, including a pair of three-point plays, and Healey added nine points to fuel the comeback.
Keuka trailed 64-59 after Rahim Bunch (14 points) hit a pair of free throws, but Williams scored five straight points, Healey hit a jumper, freshman Cliff Stevens (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) made a layup and Healey buried a jumper to put the Green and Gold up 70-64 with 2:57 remaining.
Bunch scored five straight points to pull the Phoenix within 72-69 with 1:16 remaining, but junior Vinney Zambito (Elba, N.Y./Batavia Notre Dame) made four free throws, and senior Adam Starks (Wellsville, N.Y./Andover) and freshman Greg Tyler (Edgewater, Md./Southern) each added free throws to clinch the win.
Starks finished with six points and five rebounds, Zambito added six points with four rebounds, and senior Tyler Hixson (Shortsville, N.Y./Red Jacket) scored eight points in the win for Keuka.
The Green and Gold shot 58.2 percent from the floor (32 of 55), the second-best shooting performance this year. Keuka enjoyed a 43-21 edge in rebounding against Wilson, including 11-5 on the offensive glass.
Ben Holl (21 points), Mylan Ward (13 points) and Marqwon Wynn (12 points) paced the Phoenix.
On Saturday, Healey scored 19 points with six rebounds, Tyler added nine points with four rebounds, and Williams had seven points with two rebounds, but the Wolfpack suffered a 70-50 setback to Gallaudet (D.C.) University.
It was the Bison's (14-5, 10-3) seventh straight win. Gallaudet shot 51 percent (26 of 51) while limiting Keuka to 32.7 percent (17 of 52).
Keuka trailed 14-6 and 23-12 before closing the half on an 8-2 run. Healey hit a jumper and made a pair of layups, while junior Miles Boyer (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester) added a pair of free throws as the Wolfpack went into halftime trailing 25-20.
Gallaudet scored the first eight points after halftime, but Healey scored five straight points to pull Keuka within 34-25 with 15:15 remaining.
The two schools traded '3s' before Gallaudet broke off a 28-16 run to take control for good, leading 62-41on a basket from Joshua McGriff with 4:13 to play.
Trey Gordon (16 points), McGriff (13 points, eight rebounds) and Raymond Nelson (12 points, six assists) led the Bison.
Keuka travels to Wells College for a 7 p.m. NEAC clash Wednesday night.
With five conference games remaining, Keuka sits in second place in the NEAC North, one game behind SUNY Cobleskill (11-9, 9-3). The top three teams from each division advance into the NEAC postseason tournament, Feb. 28-March 1.
