Kubitz's Double-Double Powers Women's Hoops

Box Score

Senior Amanda Kubitz (Spencerport, N.Y./E.J. Wilson) recorded her second career double-double to power the Keuka College women's basketball team to a 63-48 win over SUNY Canton Tuesday night inside the Weed Physical Arts Center.

Kubitz scored a season-high 13 points and snared a season-high 11 rebounds, while classmate Erica Pendrak (New York Mills, N.Y./New York Mills) added 15 points with three assists as the Wolfpack (4-11) shot a season-best 47.7 percent from the floor (21 of 44).

Junior Mackenzie Cole (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) added 10 points with 4 rebounds and 2 steals, while senior Brittany Hadley (Jasper, N.Y./Jasper-Troupsburg) recorded 7 rebounds with 4 points and 3 assists as the Green and Gold snapped a two-game losing streak.

Sophomore Katie Stuart (Tupper Lake, N.Y./Tupper Lake) added 6 points with 4 rebounds and 2 steals, while junior Meghan Ideman (Moravia, N.Y./Moravia) knocked down a pair of big first-half '3s' for the Wolfpack.

Keuka shot 50 percent (11 of 22) during the first half and shot 46.7 percent on '3s' (7 of 15) en route to a 35-25 halftime lead. It was the Wolfpack's highest scoring first half, and the second-highest half of the year.

Trailing 14-10, Cole buried a '3' to trim the deficit to one, but the Roos (5-12) were up 16-13 on a layup from Brianna Sayer with 11:10.

Those were the last points the Roos would score for a stretch of six minutes. Keuka went on an 12-0 run to take a 24-16 lead.

Cole knocked down a '3', Stuart added a pair of free throws and Blum had a free throw during the run. Kubitz swished a jumper and made a free throw, and Ideman capped the spurt by swishing a '3' from the right side with 6:18 remaining.

The lead shrunk to 25-20 before Ideman drilled a '3' for a 28-20 lead. Canton clawed within 30-25 on a pair of free throws from Tatiana Laroche with 2:50 left in the opening half, but Keuka closed the half on a 5-0 run thanks to a layup from Cole and a '3' from Kubitz.

Sophomore Samantha Blum (Niskayuna, N.Y./Colonie) and Pendrak each made layups, and Hadley added a jumper as Keuka took a 41-27 lead three minutes into the second.

Pendrak and Stuart hit layups on back-to-back possessions as the Wolfpack took their largest lead, 45-29 four minutes into the second.

SUNY Canton went on a 13-6 run and trailed 51-42 on a free throw from Taylor Saltus with 5:44 remaining, but Kubitz hit a pair of free throws, sophomore Chinyere Ukwu (Roosevelt, N.Y./St. Dominic) made a turn-around jumper and Pendrak added a layup for a 57-42 lead.

Keuka led by at least 12 points the rest of the way to improve to 3-4 at home.

Canton was led by Brianna Sayer (14 points), Karyss Terrance (12 points), and Tatiana Laroche (11 points, seven rebounds).

Keuka travels to NEAC foes Gallaudet (D.C.) University for a 1 p.m. clash Saturday before traveling to Wilson (Pa.) College for a noon contest Sunday.
