Women's Hoops Wins 4th Straight, Rallies Past Wells

In a crucial matchup of schools vying for a spot in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) postseason tournament, the Keuka College women's basketball team rallied past Wells College 60-48 Wednesday night inside the

Trailing at intermission, the Wolfpack (7-11, 6-7 NEAC) outscored the Express (6-12, 5-8) 34-21 in the second half to record their fourth straight victory and moved into sole possession of third place in the NEAC North Division.

Keuka placed four in double-figures, led by senior Erica Pendrak (New York Mills, N.Y./New York Mills) with 16 points and a career-high nine assists.

Seniors Brittany Hadley (Jasper, N.Y./Jasper-Troupsburg) and Amanda Kubitz (Spencerport, N.Y./E.J. Wilson) each scored 12 points, while sophomore Katie Stuart (Tupper Lake, N.Y./Tupper Lake) added 11 points in the win as Keuka improved its chances of qualifying for NEAC's.

The top three teams from each division, along with the fourth-place squad that wins the crossover contest, advance into the NEAC postseason tournament, Feb. 28-March 1.

Keuka, which split the season series with the defending NEAC champions from Wells, has five conference games remaining.

Against the Express, Keuka shot 47.8 percent (22 of 46) while holding Wells to 26.9 percent shooting (14 of 52).

The Green and Gold shot 58.3 percent from three-point land (7 of 12), while holding the Express to 17.9 percent shooting on '3s' (5 of 28).

Kubitz snared eight rebounds and made all four of her free throws, Stuart added four rebounds with two assists, and junior Mackenzie Cole (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) contributed with seven points and five rebounds in the win.

Sophomore Samantha Blum (Niskayuna, N.Y./Colonie) snared six rebounds as the Wolfpack outrebounded the Express 36-33.

Pendrak's career assist effort sparked the Wolfpack to a season-high 17 assists.

Keuka, which trailed 23-22 at halftime, went on a 9-0 run bridging both halves. Blum hit a jumper, Stuart and Pendrak each had layups and Pendrak swished a '3' from the corner for a 29-23 lead.

The Green and Gold held the Express scoreless for the first 3:24 of the second half, and Keuka had a 38-29 lead after layups from Cole and Stuart, and a free throw from Pendrak.

Wells closed within 40-35, but Kubitz drove the lane and hit a floater, and then converted a jumper off a feed from Hadley for a 44-35 lead.

Leading 47-41, Hadley and Pendrak each hit two free throws, then Hadley knocked down a triple with the shot clock winding down for a 54-42 lead with 2:02 remaining.

Keuka maintained a 10-point lead for the rest of regulation to pull away for the win.

Wells was led by Holli Erkson (18 points).
