Men's Volleyball Sweeps Two to open 2015

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Keuka College men's volleyball team opened the 2015 season with a pair of sweeps at the annual Johnson & Wales University Tip-Off Tournament in Providence, R.I.

Keuka (2-0), in its third year as a program, swept Purchase College by scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-18 before disposing of Lesley (Mass.) University by scores of 25-11, 25-8 and 25-12.

"Tonight was a full team effort and we got contributions from every healthy student-athlete," said Ben Guiliano, Keuka's third-year head coach.

"We really executed well in our serve-receive, and we were able to get a side-out whenever we needed it. We had a 68.4 percent side-out rate against Purchase, and 84.8 percent against Lesley. And both Chris Corcoran and Spencer Avery really served well for us."

Against Purchase, freshman Tim Jackson (Farmington, N.Y./Victor) hit .467 and had 10 kills with three errors in 15 attempts, and junior Connor Hinman (Lethbridge, Alberta/Catholic Central) added nine kills with three errors in 19 attempts (.316 hit percentage).

Hinman added eight digs, while freshman Aaron Brill (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes) had a .353 hitting percentage after compiling eight kills with two errors in 17 attempts.

Brill also had six digs with four aces, while junior Tom Campbell (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) had six kills with 3 digs and 1.5 blocks in the win.

Freshman Chris Corcoran (Big Flats, N.Y./Horseheads) recorded 31 assists and sophomore Cooper Lyon (Lethbridge, Alberta/Catholic Central) added 13 digs against Purchase.

Taking on Lesley University, Jackson and sophomore Jared Kucko (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) each had six kills, Brill added five kills with five digs and classmate Spencer Avery (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) handed out 25 assists in the sweep.

Junior Aaron Rydzynski (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) added seven digs, and junior Luke Ferruzza (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) had 3 kills with 3 blocks and 2 aces in the win.
