Win Streak Snapped at Five for Men's Hoops

Box Score

Junior Casey Williams (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) scored a career-high 24 points and posted his third double-double, but the Keuka College men's basketball team fell to Penn State-Abington 75-64 Saturday afternoon in Abington, Pa.

Williams shot 58.8 percent from the floor (10 of 17) and collected 13 rebounds, his second-highest rebounding effort of the year. He added five assists, but it wasn't enough as the Wolfpack (7-4, 4-1 NEAC) saw their five-game winning streak snapped against the Nittany Lions (5-8, 4-2).

Senior Tyler Hixson (Shortsville, N.Y./Red Jacket) scored 12 points with six rebounds, classmate Trevor Healey (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) added eight rebounds with seven points, and senior Adam Starks (Wellsville, N.Y./Andover) had seven points with five rebounds for the Green and Gold.

Senior Jared Wagner (Pittsford, N.Y./McQuaid) recorded five points with four assists, and junior Miles Boyer (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester) added six points on 3 of 4 shooting in the loss, Keuka's first conference setback of the year.

The Wolfpack shot 42.9 percent from the floor (24 of 56), but Abington made 52.1 percent of its shots from the floor (25 of 48).

Keuka enjoyed a 38-22 rebounding edge, including 15-2 on the offensive glass. Williams collected five offensive rebounds, while Healey and Starks added three offensive rebounds for Keuka.

Trailing 30-25 at halftime, Williams pumped in 19 second-half points as the Wolfpack scored 39 points after intermission. But Abington scored 45 second-half points and pulled away for the win.

Williams hit a layup and a free throw, Healey made a jumper and Hixson added a layup, part of a 7-0 run to open the half as Keuka took a 32-30 lead with 17:44 remaining.

Abington answered with a 10-2 run and led 40-34 on a layup from Devin Jones (15 points, nine rebounds) with 13:34 left.

Healey knocked down a jumper, Starks hit a pair of free throws and Boyer hit a layup to slice the deficit to 42-40 with 12:14 remaining. But Abington went on a 14-6 run and Keuka couldn't get any closer than eight points down the stretch as the Nittany Lions held on for their fourth win in the last six games.

Dequan Jackson added 20 points with six assists, and Max Alton had 18 points for the Nittany Lions.

In a back-and-forth first half, Williams hit a layup and Starks knocked down a '3' for a 5-3 lead 2:45 into the contest. Healey hit a pair of free throws for a 7-5 lead, but the Nittany Lions went on a 10-5 run and led 15-12 on a jumper from Jones with 9:39 remaining in the first.

Hixson added a layup and a free throw to trim the deficit to 17-15, but Abington responded with a 13-2 run and led 30-17 with 2:48 left in the opening half.

The Wolfpack clawed into the deficit, closing out the half on an 8-0 run thanks to Hixson, who hit a jumper and a layup, and Wagner, who buried a '3' with eight seconds left in the half.

The Green and Gold continue a four-game road trip to open 2015 with a 2 p.m. NEAC clash Sunday against Bryn Athyn College. Keuka's 2015 home opener is against Lancaster Bible College at 8 p.m. Friday night.
