First-Half Attack Lifts Women's Soccer to Win

Box Score

The Keuka College women's soccer team scored four first-half goals to defeat host Morrisville State 4-0 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) clash Wednesday afternoon at Morrisville, N.Y.

Sophomores Abbey David (Kendall, N.Y./Kendall) and Jordan Fredell (Wurtsboro, N.Y./Monticello) each scored goals, as did freshmen Haley Besaw (Pennellville, N.Y./Phoenix) and Emily Wolf (Hornell, N.Y./Hornell) as the Wolfpack improved to 6-3, 6-1 in NEAC play.

Freshman Kenna Kosinski (Mumford, N.Y./Caledonia-Mumford) recorded six saves for her first collegiate shutout.

In winning six of their first seven NEAC contests, the Wolfpack have outscored the opposition 38-3.

Wolf staked the Green and Golf to a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute when she buried a shot high into the right corner of the goal.

Morrisville State (4-4, 2-4 NEAC) outshot the Wolfpack 3-0 over the next six minutes, but the Mustangs' shots missed the mark, and Keuka College took a 2-0 lead when Fredell dribbled past two defenders and scored into the lower-right corner of the goal 14:58 into the contest.

Less than five minutes later, David extended the lead to 3-0 when she blasted home a shot from 30 yards out in the 20th minute.

Neither school scored again until late in the opening half. After David served in a corner kick, Wolf fired a shot on goal that was blocked, but Besaw was there to collect the rebound and score with 1:49 remaining in the opening half.

Keuka College took a 4-0 lead into halftime, and the defense made the lead hold. Morrisville had a shot glance off the crossbar, and Kosinski made four second-half saves, including several diving stops, to preserve the shutout.

The stout defense was keyed by David, sophomore Kaitlyn Talbot (Hornell, N.Y./Arkport), and freshmen Kassandra Bailey (Fillmore, N.Y./Fillmore) and Sarah Hartman (Macedon, N.Y./Wayne).

Keuka College enjoyed a 6-2 edge in corner kicks and won despite being outshot 17-16.

The Wolfpack host NEAC foe SUNY Cobleskill at 1 p.m. Saturday.
