Women's Volleyball Goes 3-0 in NEAC Play

The Keuka College women's volleyball team remained perfect in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play thanks to wins over the College of St. Elizabeth (N.J.) and Penn State-Abington on day two of the first NEAC crossover competition of 2014.

A day after earning their first win of the year with a four-set triumph over Lancaster Bible College, the Wolfpack (3-8, 3-0 NEAC) swept St. Elizabeth and dispatched of Abington in four sets from Cobkeskill, N.Y.

The Green and Gold swept St. Elizabeth by scores of 25-9, 25-13 and 25-18, and defeated Abington 25-20, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-22 to remain perfect in conference play.

"We stayed focused during our bad stretches, which allowed us to limit their runs," said head coach Ben Guiliano, in his fourth season leading the Wolfpack. 

"Our offensive rhythm was the best its been all year, and I'm proud of how we came down here and got three big conference wins."

Four different student-athletes recorded at least six kills in the sweep of St. Elizabeth. Sophomore Rachel Elliot (Dundas, Ont./Parkside) recorded seven kills with one error in 13 attempts (season-best .462 hitting percentage), while freshman Sam Thrasher (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) had seven kills with two errors in 13 attempts (season-best .385 hitting percentage) to power the Wolfpack.

Freshmen Katelyn Warren (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas A. Edison) and Meghan Calhoun (St. George, Ont./Paris District) each added six kills with one error in nine attempts and hit a season-best .556 as the Green and Gold set a season-high with a .306 hitting percentage.

Senior Rachel Parker (Chaumont, N.Y./Thousand Islands) had 12 assists with two service aces, and sophomore Kaitlin Burke (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning West) added 10 digs in the win.

Senior Julia Coryell (Phelps, N.Y./Midlakes) finished with 12 assists, 5 aces and 4 digs and sophomore Alissa Walruth (Hammondsport, N.Y./Hammondsport) served up four aces as the Wolfpack had 17 aces in three sets.

Facing Abington, senior Devan Curtis (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente) posted her third double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs, and added four aces, while classmate Danielle Alred (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) had six kills with no errors in 12 attempts (.500 hitting percentage).

Thrasher had eight kills with six digs, sophomore Tally McDonald (Romulus, N.Y./Romulus) added six kills with three blocks and Warren contributed five kills with three blocks as the Green and Gold extended their winning streak to three matches.

Burke finished with 14 digs, Walruth had 12 digs with four aces, Parker tallied 24 assists with 4 digs and 2 aces, and Coryell added 14 assists with 7 digs and 2 aces in the win.

Keuka College plays host to Ithaca College in a 7 p.m., non-conference clash Wednesday night. The Wolfpack handled the Bombers in five-set on Sept. 25, 2013.
