Women's Hoops Outlasts Caz as Gravel Sets '3' Record

Senior Casey Chamberlain (Perry, NY/Perry) scored five straight points to snap a tie game as the Keuka College women's basketball team outlasted Cazenovia College 60-52 Wednesday night inside the Weed Physical Arts Center.

Senior Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney) scored 17 points with 8 rebounds and 3 steals, and the two-time, first-team All-North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) guard became Keuka's all-time leader in made '3s' when she swished a '3' from the corner with 14:20 remaining in the first half.

Gravel, who finished 4 of 11 on '3s', now has 177 made '3s' in her career, surpassing Brittany Schrock's (2007-11) previous mark of 174.

Senior Taylor Szwec (Candor, NY/Candor) added 12 points with 14 rebounds and 6 assists for her second double-double of the year. She pulled down seven offensive rebounds as the Storm (12-8, 11-4 NEAC) grabbed 20 offensive rebounds and outrebounded Cazenovia (7-17, 7-8) 61-50.

Sophomore Mackenzie Cole (Ogdensburg, NY/Ogdensburg) added seven points and junior Brittany Hadley (Jasper, NY/Jasper-Troupsburg) scored six points for Keuka, which remained one and a half games back of Wells College (17-6, 12-2) for first place in the NEAC North.

Chamberlain scored all six of her points in the second half, and added seven rebounds while junior Erica Pendrak (New Hartford, NY/New York Mills) scored all six of her points in the opening minutes of the second half as Keuka outscored Cazenovia 9-2 to take a 38-26 lead.

Cazenovia responded with a 19-7 run as Kimberly Vrigian knocked down a '3' to tie the score at 45 with 7:51 remaining.

Trailing 47-45, Szwec knocked down a '3' to give the Storm the lead, and after Mary Salo (six points, 14 rebounds) hit a layup to put Cazenovia back on top, Cole knocked down a 15-foot jumper to tie the score at 51 with 4:15 remaining.

Following a turnover, Chamberlain hit a layup and a '3' to put Keuka ahead 56-51. Megan Plahanski hit a free throw to slice the Storm's lead to 56-52, but Szwec and Gravel each hit a pair of free throws to clinch the win for the Storm.

Keuka travels to Wells for an important NEAC clash at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale.
