Box Score Junior Tyler Hixson (Shortsville, NY/Red Jacket) scored 20 points and shot 70 percent from the field and junior Adam Starks (Wellsville, NY/Andover) added 10 points with seven rebounds, but the Keuka College men's basketball team fell to Penn State-Berks 85-69 Saturday afternoon in Reading, Pa.
Hixson connected on 9 of 13 shots from the floor and added 4 rebounds with 2 assists and 2 steals while sophomore Casey Williams (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) had 11 points and 4 rebounds for Keuka (6-15, 4-12 NEAC).
Junior Jared Wagner (Pittsford, NY/McQuaid) tallied eight points with four steals while sophomore Miles Boyer (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) had six points and five rebounds and junior Brandon Franklin (DeWitt, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) recorded 4 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists for the Storm.
Hixson scored 12 first-half points on 6 of 8 shooting for the Green and Gold, who shot 42.6 percent from the floor (26 of 62).
Berks (7-15, 7-9) connected on 58 percent of its shots (29 of 50), led by Tom Smith (25 points on 12 of 14 shooting), Darren Major (20 points) and Christian Burggraf (17 points, 5 of 6 shooting).
Hixson scored Keuka's first six points as the Storm took an early 6-5 lead, but the Nittany Lions went on an 11-0 run and led 16-6 six minutes into the contest.
The Storm trailed by at least 10 points for most of the opening half, but a '3' from Starks pulled Keuka within 35-25 with 3:41 remaining in the first. Berks then closed out the half on an 11-4 run and took a 46-29 lead into halftime.
The Storm outscored the Nittany Lions 40-39 in the second half, but never got closer than 12 points the rest of the game.
The Green and Gold host Cazenovia College at 6 p.m. Wednesday night on Senior Night.
