Box Score Junior Tyler Hixson (Shortsville, NY/Red Jacket) scored 17 points and shot 70 percent from the field, but the Keuka College men's basketball team fell to Lancaster Bible College 84-47 Friday night in Lancaster, Pa.
Hixson scored 10 first-half points on 5 of 6 shooting and finished hitting 7 of 10 shots, but the rest of the Storm (6-14, 4-11 NEAC) shot just 22.5 percent (9 of 40) in falling to the first-place Chargers (14-7, 12-2).
Sophomore Vinney Zambito (Elba, NY/Batavia Notre Dame) added 9 points with 4 assists and 3 rebounds, junior Brandon Franklin (DeWitt, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) tallied seven points and junior Joe Tortolon (Dundee, NY/Dundee) had six rebounds for Keuka, which was out-rebounded 37-24.
Hixson hit a jumper to stake the Storm to an early 2-0 lead, but the Chargers scored the next nine points. Sophomore Casey Williams (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) and Hixson each hit layups to trim the deficit to 11-6 four minutes in, but Lancaster went on a 12-0 run and led by as many as 26 points in the opening half in taking a 48-26 halftime lead.
Hixson hit a jumper and a layup and junior Jared Wagner (Pittsford, NY/McQuaid) buried a '3', but the Storm couldn't make up ground on the Chargers and suffered the loss.
Naheer Mirza scored 15 points, Albert Suniga added 14 points and C.J. Dunston had 13 points with seven rebounds for the Chargers.
The Green and Gold play at Penn State-Berks at 1 p.m. Saturday before hosting Cazenovia College at 6 p.m. Wednesday night on Senior Night.
