Box Score Junior Casey Williams (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) recorded his second double-double, but the Keuka College men's basketball team fell to undefeated Hamilton College 82-69 Saturday night inside the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House in Clinton, N.Y.
Williams exploded for a season-high 20 points and collected a game-high 11 rebounds, but the Wolfpack (2-2) allowed the Continentals (3-0) to shoot 61 percent in the second half to erase a 29-28 lead by the Green and Gold.
Senior Trevor Healey (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) added a season-high 19 points, while classmate Adam Starks (Wellsville, N.Y./Andover) had eight points with two assists for the Wolfpack, who enjoyed a 35-24 edge in rebounding.
Freshman Greg Tyler (Edgewater, MD/Southern) added 5 points with 3 assists and 3 steals off the bench for Keuka, which allowed Hamilton to go on a 10-0 run to start the second half and seize the lead for good.
Keuka went five minutes without a basket to start the second half. Healey snapped the drought on a layup to pull the Wolfpack within 38-31.
The Green and Gold hung around and trailed 47-44 on a layup from Williams with 8:26 remaining in the second half, but the Continentals responded with an 11-0 run to win their third straight to open the season.
Hamilton connected on 84.8 percent at the free-throw line (23-for-27), while Keuka shot 60.9 percent (14-for-23). Hamilton shot 47.9 percent from the floor (23-for-48) and made 47.1 percent of its attempts from beyond the arc (8-for-17), while Keuka shot 46.2 percent from the floor (24-for-52), and 35 percent on '3s' (7-for-20).
The Wolfpack led 2-0 on a layup from Williams, but Hamilton responded with a 19-7 run and led 19-9 with10:14 remaining in the opening half.
Senior Jared Wagner (Pittsford, N.Y./McQuaid) knocked down a '3', and Healey converted a three-point play to slice the deficit to 19-15 with 8:52 remaining.
Trailing 24-20, Starks hit a pair of free throws, and Williams knocked down a jumper to even the score at 24. The Continentals led 28-26 with 2:12 remaining, but Williams gave Keuka a 29-28 lead heading into halftime.
Williams snared an offensive rebound and converted the putback to knot the score, then hit a free throw for the one-point lead, the last lead the Green and Gold would enjoy against Hamilton.
Joseph Lin scored 20 points with five assists, while Ajani Santos added 14 points with six rebounds for Hamilton.
Keuka hosts RIT at 7 p.m. Tuesday night in the home opener.
