Women's Soccer Eliminated on Penalty Kicks

Box Score

The Keuka College women's soccer team saw the 2014 season come to an end Saturday in the quarterfinals of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) postseason tournament.

Keuka (10-5-2), the tournament's No. 3 seed, played Cazenovia College (8-9-2), the No. 6 seed, to a 1-all draw through 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime sessions.

The match was decided by penalty kicks, and the Wildcats advanced after besting the Wolfpack 4-3 in penalty kicks. Cazenovia advances to play No. 2 seed Penn State-Abington (12-5) Nov. 8 in the semifinals.

Cazenovia's first three kickers converted in penalty kicks, while sophomores Abbey David (Kendall, N.Y./Kendall) and Jordan Fredell (Wurtsboro, N.Y./Monticello) made their penalty kicks to pull Keuka within 3-2.

Freshman Kenna Kosinski (Mumford, N.Y./Caledonia-Mumford) then made a diving save to her right to deny Ciera Sportello and keep the deficit at 3-2.

Freshman Nicole Browe (Kendall, N.Y./Kendall) pushed her shot inside the far post to even the score at 3, but Rachel McDonough converted her shot and Keuka's last shot glanced off the post, sending Cazenovia into the semifinals.

The Wolfpack, who defeated Cazenovia 3-1 on Sept. 10, struck for an early goal in the quarterfinal.

Freshman Kayla Spraggins (Runnemede, N.J./Paul VI) scored on a 15-yard shot towards the far post just 1:27 into the game.

Fredell had a good look on goal from 12 yards out in the seventh minute, but Kara Locey (nine saves) made a diving save to keep the score 1-0.

Cazenovia nearly netted the go-ahead goal with 29:42 remaining in regulation, but Kosinski made a diving effort to keep the Wildcats off the board.

Browe had the Wolfpack's best look on goal in the second half, but her 10-yard shot with 14:13 remaining was punched over the goal by Locey.

Kosinski made a pair of big saves in the first overtime, and David had a good look at a game-winning goal from 30 yards out in the second overtime, but David's blast sailed wide of the goal.

Kosinski finished with seven saves in the loss for Keuka.
