Volleyball Falls to Wells, Earns No. 4 Seed for NEAC's

Box Score

Senior Devan Curtis (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente) recorded a season-high 16 kills with 14 digs for her fifth double-double of the year, but the Keuka College women's volleyball team fell to Wells College in four sets Tuesday night.

Curtis also hit .317 after compiling only three errors in 41 total attacks, and added 2 digs with 2 assists, but the Wolfpack (13-13, 10-2 NEAC) fell by scores of 23-25, 25-21, 21-25 and 24-26.

Sophomore Tally McDonald (Romulus, N.Y./Romulus) added 9 kills with 3 blocks and 2 digs, and senior Danielle Alred (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) recorded six kills with two blocks in the loss.

Sophomore Kaitlin Burke (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning West) added 17 digs with five assists, classmate Alyssa Girod (Warsaw, N.Y./Warsaw) recorded four kills with no errors in 13 attacks (.308 hitting percentage) for the Wolfpack.

With the loss, Keuka will be the No. 4 seed for the upcoming North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) tournament, which runs Nov. 7-9.

"That was a good game, we played well but we just made some mistakes," said Ben Guiliano, Keuka's fourth-year head coach.

"We had a couple of plays at the end of each of the sets that made the difference. But I thought we played really well. Right now, our energy is good and we're staying together and we're working hard. This has been a good turnaround for us since the start of the year."

Gallaudet University (18-12, 11-1 NEAC) earned the regular-season championship and will host the six-team tournament.

Wells College (21-10, 10-2) will be the No. 2 seed, Penn State-Berks (18-9, 10-2) is the No. 3 seed, Keuka is the No. 4 seed, Lancaster Bible College (18-12, 9-3) is the No. 5 seed, and SUNY Polytechnic (16-17, 7-5) is the No. 6 seed.

Keuka will take on Lancaster Bible College on Nov. 7 in one quarterfinal, with Berks taking on SUNY Polytechnic in the other quarterfinal.

The winner of Keuka/Lancaster Bible College will play host Gallaudet Nov. 8 in one semifinal, with Wells playing the Berks/SUNY Polytechnic winner in the other semifinal.

The NEAC championship match is Nov. 9, with the winner earning the NEAC's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III tournament.

Against the other NEAC-bound teams, Keuka posted a 3-2 record. The Wolfpack knocked off Lancaster Bible College in four sets Sept. 19, swept the four-time defending NEAC champions from Gallaudet Oct. 19, and handed SUNY Poly a four-set setback Oct. 4.

Keuka fell to Wells and was swept by Berks Oct. 18.

Against Wells, senior Rachel Parker (Chaumont, N.Y./Thousand Islands) recorded her fourth double-double with 12 digs and 12 assists, while classmate Julia Coryell (Phelps, N.Y./Midlakes) added 14 assists with five digs.

Sophomore Alissa Walruth (Hammondsport, N.Y./Hammondsport) had seven digs with five aces, while freshman Sam Thrasher (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) added four digs with three kills in the loss.
