Women's Soccer Knocks Off Alfred State

Box Score

Sophomore Jordan Fredell (Wurtsboro, N.Y./Monticello) scored a goal and classmate Abbey David (Kendall, N.Y./Kendall) convert a penalty kick to power the Keuka College women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Alfred State Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Kenna Kosinski (Mumford, N.Y./Caledonia-Mumford) stopped six shots as the Wolfpack (9-4-1) won during the inaugural Green & Gold Weekend celebration at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

The Green and Gold struck early against the Pioneers (9-6-1). David corralled a loose ball 40 yards out and played a through ball in for Fredell.

Fredell received the ball six yards out, stopped, forced Alfred State goalie Allison Danielak out of position and scored to the far post in the seventh minute for a 1-0 lead.

The Green and Gold nearly had a 2-0 lead in the 25th minute. Off a scrum in front of the net, several Keuka student-athletes had a look on goal, but were denied by Danielak (eight saves).

In the 29th minute, David took a free kick from 20 yards out that sailed high over the center portion of the goal.

Neither squad scored again until a foul was called on the Pioneers inside the box. David took the penalty kick and ripped a shot that sailed inside the far post in the 34th minute for a 2-0 lead.

The Pioneers trimmed the deficit to 2-1 on a goal from Kali Muhleisen in the 42nd minute, but Kosinski and a stout Wolfpack defense clamped down and held Alfred State scoreless over the final 48 minutes to win.

Alfred State's best scoring opportunity in the second half came with 19:05 remaining in regulation. Kaitlin Huyler blasted a shot from 10-yards out, but Kosinski dove to her left to make the big stop.

Keuka enjoyed an 18-11 edge in shots against the Pioneers in improving to 4-1 in home games.

The Wolfpack close out the regular season with a pair of home North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contests.

Keuka welcomes Penn State-Berks to campus for a 4 p.m. showdown on Friday, then hosts Lancaster Bible College at 1 p.m. Saturday to end the regular season.
