Box Score Four members of the Keuka College men's basketball team reached double-figures in scoring, but the Storm fell to North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) rival Penn State-Abington 78-72 Sunday afternoon in Abington, Pa.
Junior Trevor Healey (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) scored 19 points with six rebounds and classmate Jared Wagner (Pittsford, NY/McQuaid) added 14 points with 5 rebounds and 2 steals for the Green and Gold (5-6, 3-3 NEAC).
Wagner connected on 5 of 9 shots from the floor and was 4 of 7 from three-point range for the Storm, who shot 50 percent (8 of 16) on '3s' in the loss.
Junior Tyler Hixson (Shortsville, NY/Red Jacket) added 13 points on 6 of 11 shooting and also snared seven rebounds while sophomore Casey Williams (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) added 11 points with four rebounds for Keuka.
Abington (6-4, 3-1 NEAC) was led by Avery Barnes, who scored 21 points with 10 rebounds, Mike Marvin, who scored 19 points with 10 rebounds, and Nisiar Smith, who had 16 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
The Nittany Lions converted on 31 of their 41 free throws (75.6 percent), while Keuka made 12 of its 20 free throws (60 percent).
Keuka started slow and trailed 10-0 until Healey made a layup six minutes into the contest. Abington led by as many as 12 points in the first half.
Trailing 27-17, sophomore Miles Boyer (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) hit a layup, Healey hit a pair of free throws and made a layup as the Storm went into halftime trailing 29-23.
The lead swelled to 40-27 before Williams sparked an 8-0 run with a layup five minutes into the second half.
Hixson hit a layup to trim the deficit to 41-37 and Wagner knocked down a jumper and a '3' to pull the Storm within 55-50 with 6:01 remaining, but Keuka trailed by at least five points the rest of the game and couldn't complete the comeback.
Wagner made another '3' to get Keuka within 66-59 with 1:24 left, but Abington hit its last 12 free throws to clinch the win.
The Storm return home to host Penn State-Berks at 6 p.m. Friday and Lancaster Bible College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
