Big Second-Half Lifts Women's Hoops Over Wells

Box Score

Senior Jessica Bandrowski (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) scored a season-high 26 points to pace four student-athletes in double-figures as the Keuka College women's basketball team defeated Wells College 77-59 Wednesday night inside the Weed Physical Arts Center.

Bandrowski scored 10 points in the first half and added 16 second-half points, and also tallied six assists and four steals for the Storm (2-3, 2-0 NEAC), who won their second straight and scored a season-best 48 points in the second half.

Senior Casey Chamberlain (Perry, NY/Perry) added 13 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks while classmate Taylor Szwec (Candor, NY/Candor) recorded 11 points, 9 rebounds and four assists for Keuka.

Freshman Katie Stuart (Tupper Lake, NY/Tupper Lake) added 10 points and junior Brittany Hadley (Jasper, NY/Jasper-Troupsburg) had six points and four rebounds as Keuka held Wells (3-4, 1-1) to 17-for-53 shooting (32.1 percent).

Bandrowski connected on 11 of 21 shots (52.3 percent) and was 3 of 6 on three-pointers while Chamberlain shot 5 of 9 and Szwec was 4 of 9 in the win.

Keuka had a 19-5 edge in assists while causing 22 turnovers and generating 10 steals.

Bandrowski now has 994 points and will look to become just the 11th student-athlete in school history with 1,000 career points when the Storm host rival SUNYIT at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Leading 29-23 at the break, Keuka went on a 21-2 run to pull away for good. Bandrowski scored eight points, Chamberlain had six points and Szwec knocked down a '3' to fuel the run. Senior Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney) added a steal and a transition layup and senior Brittany Sinnott (Mt. Kisco, NY/Fox Lane) capped the spurt with a jumper for a 55-31 lead with 13:23 remaining.

Wells hung around and trailed 65-59 on a pair of free throws from Ashley Roser (28 points, 17 rebounds for her 21st consecutive double-double), but Stuart knocked down a pair of jumpers and made a pair of free throws, Bandrowski swished a '3' and Szwec hit a pair of free throws to close out the win.

The Green and Gold scored 24 points in the paint and added 20 points off turnovers, and eight fast-break points in the win.

Saturday's contest with SUNYIT occurs on Hall of Fame Day, as Nancy Wightman (synchronized swimming coach) will be inducted into Keuka's Athletics Hall of Fame at halftime of the men's game.

Both games will be streamed live with play-by-play and color commentary. The broadcast, which will kickoff at 12:50 p.m. with a pregame show, can be viewed at www.ustream.tv/channel/keuka-college-athletics.
